Chapter 7
Veronica was just as surprised as I was and
hurried to greet him.
“Grandpa?! What are you doing here? I
thought you were at the rehab center?”
The old man glared at Veronica.
“Rehab? If I stayed there, you’d ruin the whole
company! Apologize to Kyle!”
Veronica couldn’t believe it.
The first thing he did was defend me?
“Grandpa! I don’t care who told you what,
why does it have to be Kyle? What if I want to
use Cody?”
Her grandfather frowned, stared at Cody, and
sneered.
“He’s not good enough!”
Veronica and Cody looked devastated.
Veronica paled.
“You always do this… You’ve controlled me
my whole life. I want to use Cody, not just
because he’s good, but because I’m pregnant
with his child!”
Everyone gasped.
I didn’t have any feelings for Veronica, but I
was still angry that she’d cheated on me.
“You’ve been cheating on me? No wonder you
wanted a divorce so bad!”
Her grandfather widened his eyes, angrier
than me.
He hit the ground with his cane and shouted,
“You…?! Do you have any shame?! How
could you be my granddaughter!”
Veronica was defiant.
“I want you to accept us! We love each
other!”
“…You want me to accept you?!”
The old man was beside himself, and
Veronica was determined.
I knew she was going to be sneaky, but I
didn’t expect this.
“You ungrateful brat! How could you do
something like this! I disown you!”
The old man tried to hit Veronica with his
cane, but Cody stepped in front.
“Grandpa, please calm down. I truly love
Veronica!”
“Get out of my sight!”
The old man was running out of air, and his
assistant rushed to give him oxygen.
“Grandpa!”
Veronica tried to help him, but Cody held her
back.
“Don’t call me Grandpa!” the old man
managed to say.
Then Veronica’s phone rang.
She answered, forgetting to mute it, and her
secretary’s urgent voice came through.
“Veronica, we have a problem! Someone’s
attacking the firewall. We’re about to lose it!
The alarms are going off!”
Veronica’s face fell.
“…Why today?!”
I scoffed. Yeah, why today?
Veronica looked at me, then back at Cody.
Cody stepped forward, trying to prove
himself.
“I’ll take care of the firewall! It’ll be fine! Has
this happened before?”
I just smiled.
My firewall could ignore attacks like that, so
the alarms never went off.
Just as Cody was about to say something
else, the secretary panicked even more.
“Cody’s firewall… It’s gone! It was disabled
within a minute!”
