Hanging up on my call for help was a huge
mistake. If I died, Josh would be in big
trouble.
I wasn’t going to let him off the hook.
Josh’s face changed. “We’re not enemies,
Wendy, don’t make me mad.”
“What’s wrong, Josh?” Brittany acted all
sweet. She said to let it out on her. “I’m sorry,
Wendy, I asked Josh to help.”
I was recording everything, just in case. These
people were crazy, not even human.
I was going to be careful this time, every step
planned out.
Then there was a shout, Brittany screamed,
L
“It’s starting, Wendy! Hank’s at his hottest up
there, have you ever seen him fight?”
Brittany was bragging. If this was the last
time, I’d be crushed, the man I’ve loved for
years would have no problem risking his life
for Brittany, I was jealous.
I was willing to make their dream come true.
But not by trampling over my dead body.
The fight was getting intense. I closed my
eyes, but suddenly, I heard gasps on the
phone.
Brittany’s voice was shaking. “What
happened? What’s wrong with Hank?!!
Г
I opened my eyes and saw Hank lying
motionless on the stage. The screen went
black!
Could he be dead?
Chapter 2
I opened my eyes, more excited than all of
them. Was this really happening?
If so, that would be amazing.
But I couldn’t see what was happening. Josh
called them, but no one answered.
He was terrified. “Did something happen?”
“What could happen? That’s your guy Hank’s
loser.” I said smugly, secretly hoping that I
don’t even have to avenge him.
L
God is taking this bastard in. Josh said
earlier?
“Maybe the signal’s bad. You never know who
wins until the end of a boxing match.”
Josh was worried about Hank. They were best
friends since childhood.
He was also Brittany’s simp. Brittany was the
only girl in this group, so everyone babied her,
even though Hank and I were married, they
still shipping them.
They also regretting that Hank and Brittany
didn’t end up together.
I comforted Josh as he sat by my bed:
“Honey, don’t worry too much, sometimes you
gotta let go.”
Г
He said I controlled Hank too much, whenever
they went out, I would call them on the go.
That’s a buzzkill.
I laid there thinking of the past. It was true
that I had possessed Hank too much, to the
point where I could put down my own career.
Not long after we got married, Hank had me
quit my job at the dance company and be a
stay–at–home mom to take care of him.
His food was complicated, and I put a lot of
thought into these things.
But from Hank’s point of view, all my
dedication was unnecessary.
<
My heart was bleeding. Josh left, and I had
trouble sleeping that night. But I was set on
getting a divorce with Hank.
Spending my youthful years waiting for a man
who doesn’t love me.
And Hank took out his hatred on me for
Brittany’s suicide, there was no love between
us, it should not have happened.
The next morning, my phone was blown up.
Hank was dying and was sent to the
emergency room.
I calmly ate breakfast and bought my favorite
wonton and rice cake. As I was eating it, I
heard a loud noise.
Outside the door, Josh excitedly ran in.
<
“Something big happened, Wendy, Hank
might die this time.”
I finished the tea egg and looked at Josh: “It’s
just an accident, there will always be bumps
and bruises in boxing, and besides, didn’t he
say before he went that he was going to risk
his life for Brittany?”
“It’s really bad, Wendy, come and see him.”
I lay there, feeling weak. The doctor told me
to rest and I shouldn’t go to those places.
Hank was almost killed, he was all banged up,
and the doctor said there was a chance he
wouldn’t wake up.
It’s what he deserved, and Brittany cried and
begged me, “Wendy, even if you hate Hank,
least pay the hospital bill.”
Now, how come she isn’t saying that this
childhood friend is risking his life for her but
putting pressure on me?
She wants the best of both worlds.
When things were about to be exposed and
Hank might be lying in bed for the rest of his
life, Brittany thought about cutting off ties.
“Wait, Hank was fighting to get back your
mother’s stuff, shouldn’t you be taking care of
him?”
When she was enjoying all the good things
Hank did for her, she didn’t know he was
married?
<
Now that he’s lying there and can’t move,
she’s thinking of me, his “old” wife?
I wouldn’t go. I almost lost my head because
of Hank, I was almost a nanny to him, but all I
got in return was Hank’s contempt.
Brittany panicked and was about to kneel
down to me: “We didn’t think things through.”
“Brittany, you’re all grown–ups. It’s at your
own risk if you fight underground.” I said coldly, “I stopped Hank before he left, but he
was still stubborn, it’s lucky he’s got a friend
who’d risk his life for him.”
“I even want to ship you guys.”
The two of them were looking at me like I was
Drittony realized that
<
crazy, and when Brittany realized that
pretending to be a pure flower wasn’t
working, she gave up.
After that day, I ate and drank everything I
could. Hank’s parents came and cried for a
long time, and I laid out the facts.
Hank’s mother grabbed my hand and cried for
a while. She said that I was wronged, Wendy.
“Hank did not think of you, you were wronged
to marry her.” Mom said that he didn’t
discuss this with them.
I cried and shook non–stop, they all knew I
loved Hank like crazy.
“I tried to talk him out of it, but he wouldn’t
listen. He said that if I dared to tell you, he’d…
lunch and came pack, saying she was going
to treat us to a meal.
Hank’s parents had a stern face: “You’re not
welcome here, if I knew you were a jinx, I
wouldn’t have agreed.”
There were rumors going around the
neighborhood that Brittany was a bad luck,
she had killed her first two husbands.
I didn’t care about these things and didn’t
want to get involved in the discussion.
Mom was too strong, and she scolded
Brittany a few times.
“Hank’s good to you, we can see that, but
he’s already married, please behave.”
“We don’t
“We don’t owe you anything, don’t hurt my
son.”
Brittany was going to apologize to Mom,
saying that it wasn’t on purpose.
I sat aside and watched them fight, I didn’t
have to do anything, it felt so good!
“Don’t come here again, Hank was willing to
risk his life for you, it’s his fault that he ended
up like this.”
