After Breaking Up with Me, My
Fiancé Wants to Marry My
Widowed Sister–in–law
Chapter 1
After my brother, Michael, passed away, my
fiancé, Ethan, was determined to break off
our engagement.
He avoided my gaze.
“Before Michael died, he specifically asked
me to take care of his wife, Sarah. She’s just
lost her husband and needs someone now. It
wouldn’t be right for us to get married at a
time like this.”
In the past life, I had to involve both our
families to finally dissuade him.
The result was that on the day of our
engagement party, Sarah was almost killed
during a home invasion robbery.
Ethan was convinced that I was behind it. At
our wedding, he announced to everyone that
he was only marrying me because I had
threatened him with my nephew’s life.
I became the target of everyone’s
condemnation, was kicked out of my family
home, and forced to marry a man with
intellectual disabilities, who eventually beat
me to death.
In this life, I agreed to break off the
engagement and devoted myself entirely to
my unfinished astronomy research.

“Our families have discussed the cancellation
of the engagement. As long as Grandma.
Eleanor agrees, the two of you will no longer
have any ties.”
Our parents left after saying this, their faces
filled with helplessness.
There wasn’t a trace of sadness on Ethan’s
face, only unconcealed relief and excitement.
Seeing my silence, he restrained his smile and
looked at me.
“Ashley, I know you’re upset, but this is just a
temporary arrangement. We can get married
after Sarah recovers from her grief.”
<
“So Grandma doesn’t find out and worry,
let’s not publicly announce the broken
engagement yet.

Seeing me agree, a flicker of joy flashed in
Ethan’s eyes.
I knew he wasn’t worried about my grandma.
He just wanted to continue using his status
as my fiancé to stay by Sarah’s side and take
care of her.
With the matter settled, Ethan hurried off to
find Sarah, making up an excuse to leave.
Watching his retreating figure, the tragic
experiences of my past life resurfaced in my
mind.
I thought that agreeing to break off the
<
engagement would prevent the events of my
past life from happening again.
But unexpectedly, rumors started spreading a
few days later, saying that I had forced Ethan
into the engagement by threatening my
nephew’s life.
Everyone who knew our families also knew
that Ethan was my brother’s best friend. It
wouldn’t be surprising for him to agree to my
demands to protect my brother’s only child.
Soon, I became a shameless villain in
everyone’s eyes.
Even my parents kicked me out of the house.
again.
While I was enduring the pain of being
abandoned by everyone, Ethan was busy
taking care of the heartbroken Sarah and
didn’t come home for days.
When I finally saw him, he was back at our
place packing his things, saying he was
moving in with Sarah to better care for her.
“Everyone’s saying that I forced you into
marrying me by using my brother’s only child
right after his death. Does this have anything
to do with you?”
Ethan’s eyes flickered, and he answered
perfunctorily, “Why care about what they
say? It doesn’t affect you.”
His reaction shattered my last bit of hope.
I closed my eyes and said wearily, “Let’s
announce that we’ve broken off the
L
engagement. I don’t want to be unfairly
burdened with these accusations.
Hearing this, Ethan, who was about to leave,
threw the things in his hand on the ground
and glared at me angrily.
“Ashley, can you please not be so
unreasonable? Everyone’s grieving Michael’s
death. Do you have to cause trouble at a time
like this?”
“Besides, Sarah is sensitive. If you announce
this now, she might overthink it and think that
we broke up because of her. Do you want to
drive her to her death?”
Seeing his furious look, I asked sarcastically, “Are you really grieving Michael’s death?
Aren’t you happy to have a reason to openly

take care of Sarah?”
“Besides, the reason we broke off the
engagement is because of her.”
Ethan and I had known each other since
childhood. Four years ago, he suddenly
proposed to me. Both our families thought it
was a good match, so we got engaged.
Later, I discovered that he proposed to me
just two months after Sarah married my
brother.
Unfortunately, I was blinded by his public
display of affection and didn’t notice the
unusual look in his eyes when he looked at
Sarah.
By the time I knew the truth, it was too late..
In this life, I didn’t hesitate to step aside. Yet,
he still pushed me into the spotlight to help
Sarah, letting me endure everyone’s insults.
Our eyes met, and the tenderness in Ethan’s
eyes was gone, replaced by disgust.
“Ashley, I didn’t want to go too far
considering our families‘ friendship. Since
you’re going to nitpick about such a small
matter, then move out.”
“This is my and my future wife’s new home.
It’s not suitable for you to live here.”
