Chapter 10
Leaving Garrett’s company, he apologized.
“I’m sorry.”
“I didn’t know she did those things. I didn’t
expect her to smear you online.”
I calmly replied. “It doesn’t matter anymore.”
“It does matter!” Garrett’s eyes pleaded.
“Let’s get back together, Raina. You
remember everything now.”
“It was all misunderstandings. You’re the one I
love, and I love you too.”
“It’s over,” I shook my head. “Five years,
Garrett. I’ve moved on.”
“About the engagement, it was Garrett’s
parents who contacted mine. They thought I
liked you, but they never asked me.”
“I initially agreed because I didn’t care. These
kinds of marriages are never real.”
I smiled. “It didn’t matter who I married.”
<
Garrett pursed his lips, his eyes urgent.
“If it doesn’t matter, cancel the wedding with
Quincy and marry me.”
I smiled.
“I did like you.”
“But now…”
I think…I’ve fallen for Quincy.
The house was dark. I thought I was alone.
Turning on the lights, I saw Quincy on the
sofa, surrounded by empty bottles.
I was startled. He looked up, looking pathetic.
“You didn’t come back all day. Don’t you want
me anymore?”
I soothed him. “I told you I had something to
do.”
“See? I’m.back.”
He wrapped his arms around my waist,
rubbing his face against mine.
“You can’t like Garrett anymore. Only me.”
Drunk Quincy was childish. He wouldn’t
usually say this.
Maybe because he usually bottled up his
emotions, I hadn’t noticed his feelings for me.
I hugged him, touching his back.
“Never again.”
“I’ll only like you.”
He looked at me. “Really?”
I nodded. “I’m not lying.”
He kissed me. It was soft and smelled faintly
of alcohol.
He held me tight, almost suffocating me.
After what felt like forever, we pulled apart.
Quincy was crying.
He picked me up and carried me to the
bedroom.
I woke up, at noon.
My body ached, and the culprit wasn’t in bed.
Quincy had left a note and a breakfast of
tonic foods. He was at work and told me to
reheat the food.
I ground my teeth, suspecting he was guilty.
My phone rang. It was Molly.
“Raina, did you see the trending topics?”
“More people are exposing Bailey. She wasn’t
poor. She was middle class but fraudulently
obtained a scholarship.”
“She was also involved with your
department’s advisor. She stole the
scholarship.”
“Everything’s out!”
Chapter 11
I checked Weibo.
Today’s trending topics were even more
exciting.
Bailey’s PR team was silent.
Fans were explaining things, but no one
believed them.
They started complaining about Bailey’s
company.
Garrett’s company released a statement
ending their contract with Bailey, and
revealed that she’d bought internet trolls to
smear others, including me.
Bailey’s reputation was ruined. No company
would sign her.
She got what she deserved.
My wedding with Quincy was coming soon.
On the wedding day, I wore my dream dress.
My parents and Quincy’s parents were happy,
watching me walk down the aisle.
Quincy’s mom beamed. “I always wanted
Raina to be my daughter–in–law. But that boy
wasn’t very proactive.”
Quincy sighed. “Mom.”
Quincy’s mom grinned. “What? I wasn’t
forcing you.”
“Who played house as a kid, always wanting
Raina to be their wife, pouting when she
refused?”
I pinched Quincy’s finger, whispering, “You
were scheming from such a young age?”
He looked at me calmly. “I should’ve
kidnapped you as a child, making you only my
wife.”
I laughed, seeing his ears redden.
Before the ceremony, I went to the dressing
room.
I slipped out to find Quincy.
Someone stopped me.
“Garrett?” I frowned. “What are you doing
here?”
He looked at me, bitter. “You’re still marrying
Quincy.”
“Raina, come with me.”
“I fired Bailey and exposed her actions. I’ve
avenged you.”
Garrett looked down. “I had poor judgment.
Our breakup was a misunderstanding.”
“I’ll make up for everything. Can you give me
a chance?”
I sighed. I was tired of his persistence.
A cold voice cut through the air.
“She can’t.”
I turned and met Quincy’s eyes.
He shielded me, looking at Garrett.
“Quincy, why pretend to be so affectionate?”
Garrett’s eyes were full of resentment.
“How long have you two been together? Are
you sure you won’t make the same mistake as
me?”
Quincy sneered. “Of course not.”
“Only a fool like you would have bad
judgment, and I will always trust Raina.”
Garrett’s face darkened. “You!”
“Enough!” I stood before Quincy. “Garrett, I’m
saying this for the last time.”
“When we argued, I was angry and
disappointed, but when I broke up with you, it
was over for me.”
“I don’t regret it. I don’t dwell on the past.
L
You don’t need to apologize because I don’t
care anymore.”
I looked at Quincy. “Now, I’ve found someone
I love and care about.”
“Garrett, let’s have a decent ending, okay?”
Garrett looked into my eyes, motionless.
After a moment, his eyes dimmed, and he
turned away.
The wedding march played. Pink petals fell.
At the center of the hall, surrounded by loved
ones, the priest spoke.
Quincy put the ring on my finger, his eyes
tender.
“I do.”
I smiled. “I do.”
Fireworks exploded. We kissed amid cheers
and applause.
