Chapter 4
A surge of anger radiated from his gaze.
“Lin Raina, I was gone for two days, and
you’re already causing trouble?”
“A few pictures, and you’re this worked up?
You haven’t changed a bit.”
His face darkened. “You like Quincy, huh?”
“Fine. Call off the engagement. Go be with
Quincy.”
I was still trying to figure out who this guy
was when he launched into this tirade. My
temper flared.
“Where did they dig you up from?”
“Of course, I’m going with Quincy! Should I go
with you instead?”
“If you’re sick, go see a doctor. Stop
snapping at people!”
“Don’t you have a mirror? Take a look at
yourself! Are you even worthy of being
Quincy’s pinky toe?”
I unleashed my fury. His face grew
increasingly grim.
He looked stunned. “Lin Raina, is this another
one of your games? I’m warning you, don’t
push it too far.”
Someone behind me tugged my sleeve.
“Raina, what are you doing? That’s Garrett.
You’ve always liked him, haven’t you?”
Garrett?
That name, echoing in my ears.
I pointed at myself. “Me? Like him?”
Quincy’s strange reaction, my parents‘ odd
behavior, my friends‘ whispers…it all flashed
through my mind.
Did I…used to like this guy?
“I’ve told you countless times, Lin Raina. I
agreed to the engagement, but I’ll never like
you.”
His tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Disgust was plain in my eyes.
“I was blind to like you before.”
“Now I like Quincy, so get lost!”
“You!” He was furious, grabbing my wrist.
“What are you doing?”
Suddenly, someone shielded me. Quincy’s
cool voice cut through the air.
“Get away from her.”
I hid behind him, clinging to his arm.
Garrett’s face darkened further.
“Lin Raina, you think this will make me fall for
you again?”
He smirked, turning to Quincy. “Quincy, Lin
Raina just has to snap her fingers and you’re
all over her. Such a loyal dog.”
“You liked her for years, so what? She didn’t
even notice. How did you feel watching us
date in college?”
I noticed Quincy’s fists clenched at his sides.
“Our business is none of your concern.”
“Just know. she doesn’t want to see you
Garrett scoffed, looking at me.
“Lin Raina, this is your last chance.”
“Leave with me. The wedding is still on in a
month. I won’t bring up Bailey.”
“…Or,” Garrett glanced at Quincy, his smile
vanishing, “you can keep playing dumb. After
today, even if you cry and beg, I’ll call off the
engagement.”
“You choose.”
It was supposed to be my choice, but Garrett
looked certain.
He seemed convinced I’d leave Quincy’s side
and go with him.
Even Quincy seemed to think I’d choose
Garrett.
Everyone assumed I’d choose Garrett.
I was silent.
Was I that pathetic before?
Seeing my silence, the sarcasm deepened in
Garrett’s eyes. He even extended his hand.
<
Quincy’s grip on my hand loosened, his eyes
shadowed.
“Slap!”
