“Tom, is this true?” Susan stared at Tom, her
eyes wide.
This time, she couldn’t even lie to herself.
She could forgive Tom, because he was her
son, but what about Bethany and Paulie?
Tom was willing to throw his own sister under
the bus to protect Bethany. She lost all sense
of security.
If Tom could betray his sister, he could betray
his mom.
From now on it wasn’t just about getting
From now on, it wasn’t just about getting
revenge for Carrie. For her to secure her own
future, Susan would get rid of Bethany.
“Tom, I’m disgusted by you. Sign the papers,
we’re getting a divorce tomorrow.”
Tom seemed shocked by my tone. “Dream
on!”
I held up my phone. “You can refuse to sign.
Then this recording will be sent to everyone
you know.”
Tom snatched the phone and smashed it on
the ground.
I stepped back, putting some distance
between us. “I made sure the recording would
be sent at 3pm to everyone you know!!
be sent at 3pm to everyone you know.”
“Honey, why are you doing this to me? I told
you, there’s nothing going on between me
and Bethany! Why are you doing this?”
“Doing what? Tom, is that all you got from all
of this? You really think I give a damn about
you cheating on me? You are my ex–husband.
I’m divorcing you because you and I could
never agree on anything. The most important
thing you didn’t think of was your sister. I
don’t want to live with you.”
“I… no, Honey, you’re lying! All you have to do
is apologize and stop embarrassing me,”
“Stop talking about your sister.
Tom’s face twisted with rage, and he quickly
signed the papers before slamming them in
my face.
I didn’t feel humiliated. He was a lost cause.
“Tomorrow at the courthouse. Don’t forget.”
I picked up the divorce papers and left.
Whether Tom showed up at the courthouse or
not, the Chen family would know that I was
done with him.
And Tom’s fate was already sealed, one way
or another.
