Chad was already here, with Tiffany.
They were ready to get engaged after we
broke up.
They were happy.
I put the bracelet on the table and he grabbed
my wrist. “What is this?”

Chapter 2
Oh yeah, I only told him to meet me at
Grandma’s place. Never mentioned the whole
breaking–up thing.
Grandma saw us and knew something was
- up.
“Ashley, did Chad do something to hurt you?”
She gave Tiffany a major side–eye.
I looked at Grandma and spoke, calm as
could be, “Grandma, I’m the one calling off
the engagement.”
Chad’s eyes went wide. He was shook.
“Why?”
“Because you left me for someone else
yesterday,” I said, glancing at Tiffany, who
was giving her best damsel–in–distress look. “I guess she’s the one you really wanted to
<
marry.”
Tiffany kept staring at me, looking like she
was about to cry.
“No,” Chad said, looking all confused. “You
told me to save Tiffany first…”
“That was a test, and you failed.”
Chad just shut down.
Grandma sighed. “I heard what happened.
You’re a good girl, Ashley. He doesn’t deserve
you…”
“Grandma!”
Chad cut her off, grabbed my wrist hard
enough to crack bone.
<
“Ashley, I won’t let you do this!”
Yesterday’s cut was throbbing. I swallowed
and gave a laugh.
After Tiffany offed herself, he missed her for
seven years.
Now, he couldn’t wait to save her.
“Unless you want me to go to the press tomorrow and announce the break–up solo, then you better let me go.”
I twisted away, leaving him in the dust.
