- 11.
But I didn’t expect him to go to the dean and
try to withdraw me from school.
When I was called to the dean’s office, Jake
was sitting there stiffly.
Fury boiled inside me. “Jake, what the hell
are you doing?”
“What gives you the right to try and force me
out of school?”
“I want you to come home with me.‘
“”
Г
He stood up, walked towards me, and
reached for my hand.
I recoiled, dodging his touch.
“Home? To watch you and Chloe be lovey-
dovey?”
His face stiffened, then anger flared. “Sarah,
don’t be ridiculous. We’re married.”
“Running off to Miami like this… what are we supposed to do, live apart forever?”
His audacity made me laugh.
“Jake, Chloe is your wife!”
“Her name is on the marriage license, and/
she’s the one in your heart!”
His face turned an ugly shade of green. He
gritted his teeth. “That was a mistake!
Mistakes are meant to be corrected!”
“My past behavior made you misunderstand. I
won’t do it again.”
My heart sank.
“”
I’d heard those words before, in my past life.
Only to watch him turn around and go right
back to Chloe.
I turned to the dean, my voice earnest. “Dean
Thompson, I really want to continue my
studies here. Please don’t let him withdraw
me.”
く
The dean looked at me, then at Jake, and
after a moment of consideration, he said,
“Mr. Miller, seeing as you have no official
connection to Ms. Miller, you have no
authority to withdraw her from this
university.”
I breathed a sigh of relief.
Jake started to speak, but the dean cut him
off.
“Mr. Miller, if there’s nothing else, please
leave. I have work to do.”
