Dave burst into my office, looking panicked.
I frowned.
“She’s not only embarrassing herself but also
gone missing?”
“That’s hilarious.”
He pointed at me, enraged.
“If you hadn’t been so hard on her, she
wouldn’t have run off.”

“She’s a young woman. She couldn’t take
being humiliated in public again and again!”
“You don’t seem worried at all!”
His finger was almost touching my face, so I
grabbed my water bottle and splashed it all
over him.
“You any calmer now?”
“Go to the cops! Why are you coming to
me?”
He wiped the water off his face, looking
bitter, but finally apologized.
“I’m sorry, I was overreacting.”
“I’m worried about Amber. Can you apologize
so she can come back.‘

Tomorrow, I’d be done with all of this and
starting at Leo’s firm.
To end things on a civil note, I grabbed my
phone and texted Amber.
