I woke up in the hospital.
Leo was still unconscious. I held his hand,
wishing I hadn’t called him.
“I won’t let those people get away with this!”
Hot tears fell on his cold hand.
I checked myself out of the hospital and
started working on the trial prep.
I was going to put Amber, Tommy, and Dave
in jail myself!
I was running back and forth from the police
station to the hospital.
The trial was soon set.
Before it started, I got a surprise visit.
“Frank, what are you doing here?”
I had mixed feelings about my former mentor.
But I figured his visit wasn’t good news.

everything, leading her down a criminal path.’
