- 5.
This sudden change left me reeling.
Frank’s blind spot for Amber didn’t make any
sense.
He was willing to throw me under the bus,
even though I brought in more business than
ten Ambers combined.
But the mentor I’d always respected was now
twisting the truth.
“Frank!”
I ran out of the office to stop him, trying to
explain myself.
But Tommy blocked my way:
“Sue, Frank has taught you so much. Are you
going to ruin that over something small?”
“He’s just an experienced lawyer pointing out
your mistakes. You need to admit you are
wrong.”
I didn’t care what Tommy and Dave did to
- me.
But Frank had built my career, encouraging
me to fight for justice.
Now, he was betraying his own lessons.
I trembled with anger, but forced myself to
speak calmly:
“I disagree!”
“I don’t accept your assessment of what
happened in court. I stand by everything I
did!”
Frank’s face hardened, his friendly mask
gone:
“I always knew you were ambitious, but I
didn’t know you were so petty!”
“Amber has a lot of talent, but you can’t let
her shine. She needs a chance to prove
herself.‘
وو
“If you’re that jealous, you should just quit.”
“If you’re that jealous, you should just quit.‘
The people in the office don’t know what
happened in the court.
They had heard Frank’s light accusations and
thought they were true.
They started whispering.
He really knew how to talk, making me look
bad.
I gritted my teeth, ready to defend myself.
But someone burst into the room, their voice
mocking:
“Maybe you all should look at the evidence.”
“Isn’t the principle of ‘evidence over hearsay‘
something every lawyer believes in?”
