After rebirth, the kind and poor
student’s house collapsed
Chapter 1
The girl my mom sponsors was pulling a fast
one, pretending to be me at school.
Right there at the front entrance, packed with
students, she jumped into my ride before I
could, yelling loud enough for everyone to
hear:
“Ashley, I know we’re like, besties and all, and
I hate to make a big deal out of this.”
“But seriously, we live in totally different
く
directions. You can’t always bum rides with
my chauffeur just because we’re friends, you
know?”
Everyone around shot me these judgy looks.
Normally, I would’ve turned beet red and
stammered something.
But lucky for me, or rather, unlucky for her, I’d
just been reborn.
So, in front of God and everybody, I yanked
her out of the car and spat right in her face:
“Gave you a taste of the good life, and you
already forgot who you are.”
<
“Your chauffeur? Try calling him that and see
if he even looks at you.”

The chatter in the crowd went dead silent
when I dropped that bomb.
I gave Ashley Davis, sprawled on the sidewalk
outside the car, a cold, disgusted look, and
didn’t say another word.
Slamming the door shut, I told the driver to
step on it.
Outside, Ashley, now fully awake, pounded on
the window, still trying to act all entitled and
く
“Miss, that’s not right.”
The driver glanced back, looking nervous.
“Not right?”
I smirked. Ashley wants me to open the door,
fine, I’ll help her out.
Catching her off guard, I popped the electric lock. Just as she wrenched the door open, I
leaned back a little and kicked the door out
with every ounce of my strength.
“Bam!”
Ashley didn’t have time to react. The force of
く
the door sent her flying, her head cracking
against the metal before she tumbled to the
ground.
“Agh!”
Ashley shrieked.
I leaned against the doorframe, watching her
lying in a heap on the ground, bleeding from
scrapes on her arms and legs, with a bump
swelling on her forehead.
“Brittany Miller!”
Ashley screamed my name, her voice hoarse.
く
Her eyes were bloodshot, but even then she
was trying to twist things around:
“It’s not like I’m never going to give you a ride
home again. But even if we’re best friends,
you can’t just take my family car home
everyday!”
“This is my car, are you serious right now?!”
“Am I serious?”
I pointed at myself, amused. Then I laughed,
not even trying to hide it.
“You wanted me to open the door, so I
opened the door. What’s the issue?”
く
“You’re just mad you didn’t duck fast enough
and got your head smashed, that’s not my
problem.”
“Besides, since when can you just run your
mouth and say whatever? You calling this
your car? Where’s the receipt?”
“Open your eyes, do you even know what kind
of car this is? Just because you’re playing
princess doesn’t mean you actually own
anything.”
I cut her off and slammed the door again,
telling him to drive.
I caught the driver looking out the window at
<
Ashley, who was bawling and looking
pathetic. He had this worried look on his face,
and my blood started to boil.
“David, don’t forget who signs your
paycheck.”
“All this stuff lately? When my dad gets back,
I’m telling him everything.”
“Think about your son for a second, reign in
that bleeding heart of yours, and stop feeling
bad for people who don’t deserve it.”
The sympathy vanished from David’s face as
quickly as it appeared.
He used to be my dad’s driver, but now he’s
been assigned to me.
As for his son, he’s my dad’s assistant. His
wife takes care of my grandma in the family
house.
His entire family depends on us.
I know why David was feeling sorry for
Ashley. Ever since my mom took her in six
months ago, Ashley’s been trying to suck up
to everyone.
Helping the housekeeper with chores,
washing David’s car, chatting him up…
<
Eventually, they started to like her and felt
bad for her, so they’d go out of their way to
help her.
I was reminding him who his real boss was.
He needs to be looking out for me, not some
phony–baloney charity case.
