Chapter 7
After being stationed abroad for two years, I led the overseas. branch to secure a deal worth over a hundred million dollars.

The news reached back home, and my boss, beaming with joy, asked me to return, saying he would throw a grand celebration in my honor.
At the celebration, I saw many familiar faces.
Dad, Mom, Cassian, and Damien.
They all looked worn out and haggard. They were stopped by the company’s security, but their eyes were bloodshot as they stared at me.
“Nelia, you’re finally back!”
Mom wiped away her tears, her face filled with the longing she couldn’t hide.
“How could you just leave like that? Running off to a foreign country on your own? And you blocked all our numbers. Do you know how worried we were about you?”
Dad, standing beside her, supported her with a similar look.
“Just stop it. We’re all glad that she’s back.”

Damien’s gaze was fixed on me, his eyes intense.
I didn’t doubt that, without security, he would have charged right up to me.

Only Cassian, who had spoken with me earlier, stood back when he noticed my indifferent gaze.
I watched coldly, unmoving, until the three of them finally realized something was off.
The security personnel asked me if I wanted them to let them in.
I forced a smile, and in their expectant eyes, I replied lightly,
“Take them away. I don’t know them.”
“No, Nelia, are you still angry?”
In his agitation, Damien broke free from the security guards and rushed to me.
He hugged me tightly as if he were holding a precious treasure that had been lost and was now found.
“Your scars have healed. Did you have surgery? That must have been so painful, right?”
I didn’t respond.
After going abroad, I had indeed undergone surgery.

To fix those ugly scars, I couldn’t even remember how many times I had laid on the operating table.
But what did that have to do with Damien?
He, however, was crying.
“I was wrong. You waited for so long for that wedding, I shouldn’t have let Zara take your place.
“I’ve been waiting for you to come back. We’ll redo the wedding, and it’ll be better and more extravagant. How about it?”
I felt an overwhelming disgust and pushed him away with force.
“Where were you before? Back then, weren’t you quite enjoying the ambiguity with Zara?”
When I said that, Damien’s eyes actually lit up.
“You’re still bothered by it, aren’t you? You’re jealous! I knew you hadn’t let go of me!
“Nelia, I really know I was wrong. No one in this world loves me more than you.
“If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have achieved what I have today…”
His words made me feel a moment of disorientation.
Yes.
Chapter 7
I had been with him from the days as students, and when he started his business, I helped him secure deals.

During the hardest time, we couldn’t even afford two lunches.
He swore he would treat me well for a lifetime, that he would always favor me. But now?
Promises only mattered the moment they were spoken.
In the end, he still drifted away.
I took a step back, keeping my distance.
“Stop being ridiculous, Damien. I don’t love you anymore.”
