Chapter
Serena quickly waved her hands.
Even if she had other things to do, she had to say she did not. This was her chance to make a good impression on her boss.
Vanessa nodded. “The CEO’s office is on the twenty–sixth floor. I have other matters to attend to, so I will not take you there. Miss Stone, you may go on your own.”
Serena was to go up alone?
This had to be some kind of joke.
It was her first time at Starlight Media, her first time meeting the big boss, and they were sending her up her own? Would there not be someone to show her the way?
“Do you have any questions, Miss Stone?”
Serena kept quiet.
What could she even say?
She shook her head. “No, I do not.”
Vanessa watched Serena stiffly walk out of the meeting room. She lowered her eyes and carefully packed away the contract on the table.
Lennox had been very insistent that this matter be handled with care.
Finally, it was done.
Ah… maybe my year–end bonus would see a nice increase.

‘As for whatever Serena was about to go through… Vanessa could only hope that Serena would find her own way through it.
Serena stood alone by the elevator, waiting.
She sighed. Just what was going through Vanessa’s mind?
With a soft ding, the elevator doors opened. Just as she was about to step inside, a group of assistants. emerged, escorting a woman.
Serena recognized her. It was Sonya Tanner, one of the brightest stars at Starlight Media and one of the “Four Belles” of this year. She was only twenty–five.
Sonya had shot to fame as a sweet, girl–next–door type in a popular high school drama.
Serena stepped back, letting Sonya pass first.
Just as she was about to step into the elevator, Sonya raised a hand to stop her. She took off her oversized sunglasses and frowned at Serena. “Who are you?”
“Hello, my name is Serena Stone. I just signed on with the company as a new talent.”
Serena kept her tone polite. She had not even debuted yet, and in the entertainment industry, anyone who debuted earlier was a senior and deserved respect. Otherwise, people would start saying she was disrespectful.
LA
No woman liked to see another woman more attractive than herself, and Sonya was no exception.
She lifted her chin. “Where are you going?”
“Miss Zeller said the CEO wanted to speak with me. I am heading to his office.”
Sonya’s face darkened.
Since when did the CEO met with a new hire?
Her gaze swept up and down Serena’s figure without the slightest hint of subtlety, and she clenched her teeth.
What a seductress!
Curse it all. Lennox was definitely under this seductress‘ spell. She gave Serena a warning look. “Listen, newbie. Be careful who you get involved with and keep your distance from those out of your league.”
Serena frowned.
What was wrong with this woman?
She was about to speak when Vanessa approached. Upon noticing the tension between them. Vanessa immediately looked at Sonya. “Miss Tanner, do you not have an ad shoot scheduled? You should not waste any time.”
Sonya did not dare to argue with Vanessa.
With a final glare at Serena, she left with her entourage.
“How ridiculous.”
Serena got into the elevator, pressed the button for the twenty–sixth floor, and fumed.
Sonya took herself too seriously and acted as if everyone else was beneath her.
“She clenched her fists, muttering under her breath. “When I am even more famous than you, let us see if you still dare to act this arrogant.”
The elevator doors opened, and Serena stepped out.
The twenty–sixth floor was eerily quiet, so quiet it felt a bit unsettling. A few desks could be found, but no one was working at them.
This was creepy.
It felt like she had stepped into a ghost movie.
She swallowed, stepping up to the CEO’s office door and giving it a light knock.
There was no response from inside.
She steadied her nerves and knocked again.
Still no response.
“Was no one there?
After a moment of hesitation, Serena reached for the door handle and pushed it open. The office was spacious, decorated in stark white that made everything stand out.
