He pressed his lips together and grabbed my hand, pulling me towards the study, “I need to talk to you privately.”
My mother stood up, looking worried.
I waved at her and followed Jack into the study. After closing the door, Jack looked at me with red–rimmed eyes, “I admit, I was a bit dissatisfied with you before, but I still love you!”
I looked him in the eye and suddenly said in Spanish, “Emma’s had a child. She’s not as tight as you are.”
Jack’s pupils dilated in shock, “You… you know Spanish?”
I sighed softly, “That’s not important. You said such hurtful things, and now I understand what position I hold in your heart!”
He stared at me nervously, “Emma, listen to me. Scarlett is just an ordinary secretary from a common background. When that child is born, I’ll bring it to you to raise. Wouldn’t you like to be a mother without the pain? She just wants money. I’ll give her five million and tell her to get lost!”
“I may have had some entanglement with Scarlett, but my heart is still with you! Women like Scarlett are just hotels, but you’re my real home. I’ll always come back to you in the end.”
“What man in our social class doesn’t have affairs? Can’t you learn from other wealthy wives and turn a blind eye to your husband’s indiscretions? Isn’t it better to just muddle through life?”
I stared at Jack’s face, feeling waves of disappointment wash over me.
He was truly silver–tongued, eloquent, and skilled at twisting facts. His ability to distort the truth had only increased since his youth.
After cheating on me, he even had the audacity to make demands.
These ridiculous words could probably only come from someone as shameless as him.
“Tommy doesn’t need any other siblings, and I don’t need a cheating man like you. I won’t be like those wives who muddle through life, turning a blind eye to their future husband’s indiscretions,” I said firmly.
Seeing my resolute attitude, Jack’s face turned pale, “Emma! You can’t leave me!”
I rested my chin on my hand and looked at him, “You’ve already signed the divorce agreement.”
He suddenly fell to his knees in front of me, clutching the hem of my dress with both hands, “Emma, you can’t be so heartless. Without his biological father, Tommy’s childhood will surely be gloomy.”
I leaned down and pried his fingers off my dress one by one, “You were the one who heartlessly betrayed our marriage first. Next time I marry, I’ll definitely keep my eyes wide open. I absolutely won’t find Tommy a two–faced father who only knows how to say pretty words!“‘
Jack slumped to the ground.
At this moment, he had lost all the commanding presence of a CEO.
He looked full of remorse, as if he had made some kind of decision, “I really can’t lose you. I’ve decided, I’ll go back to the city tonight and make Scarlett abort the baby and resign. From now on, I’ll be faithful and raise our Tommy well with you. I won’t mess up again. Please, give me another chance, okay?”
I silently shook my head and turned to leave.
Jack tightly hugged my legs, “Actually, these past few days, I’ve mostly been busy with work. The company my father gave me has landed three big deals in a row. With the New Year coming up, if this Spanish order doesn’t come through, we won’t even be able to give out year–end bonuses to the employees. We might have to declare bankruptcy next year.”
“What does that have to do with me? We’re already divorced,” I said.
I kicked his hands away and walked out without looking back
