- 5.
After several days of searching, Ethan,
realizing I’d completely vanished, lost his
mind.
He neglected his business, hanging up on
business partners, his employees gossiping,
but he ignored it all.
A week later, Ethan finally returned to the
office.
Lana stood up as soon as she saw him.
“Ethan, what’s wrong with you?”
“Is it because of Lori?”
Lana’s expression was a mixture of hurt and
worry.
But her eyes gleamed with excitement.
Ethan said nothing, going to his desk to work.
く
He instinctively opened his desk drawer to
make tea, only to find it empty.
I used to keep it stocked with his favorite tea.
But I was gone.
Ethan stared at the empty tea tin.
The pain was unbearable.
Seeing this, Lana knew I was gone for good.
She knelt beside him, taking his hand.
“Ethan, please don’t be like this, it worries
me so much.”
Her face was filled with sorrow.
But the corners of her mouth couldn’t quite
hide her glee.
“Did Lori leave?”
Lana pretended to guess.
“Ethan, if she left, it’s okay. I’ll always be by
your side.”
“I’ll be better than her.
“And you love me more, don’t you?”
Lana declared her love.
<
Suddenly, Ethan’s eyes lit up.
“Lana, did I ever give you a jade pendant? Do
you still have it?”
Ethan’s sudden hope was obvious.
Lana’s face froze.
“Ethan, when did you ever give me a jade
pendant?”
Lana swallowed nervously.
“It was in England. You took it from my
suitcase.”
Noticing Lana’s discomfort, Ethan’s
expression darkened.
“You’re not going to tell me you lost it, are
you?”
“No way!”
Lana instinctively denied it, but she realized
her mistake immediately.
One moment she didn’t remember any
pendant, the next she denied losing it.
Ethan, a seasoned businessman, immediately
く
suspected Lana was hiding something.
“Give me the pendant.”
His voice was icy.
Everyone in the company feared that tone,
because when Ethan spoke like that,
someone was about to suffer.
Lana felt a chill.
“Ethan, the pendant’s at my house. I
remember now. I’ll bring it to you later,
okay?”
But Ethan couldn’t wait. He grabbed Lana and
dragged her to the car.
No matter how Lana tried to stall, Ethan was
relentless.
Within half an hour, they arrived at Lana’s
house.
Lana’s house was clearly a gift from Ethan.
How could she afford a beachfront villa like
that?
