Chapter 5
As I regained consciousness, I heard the sound of “bang bang” hitting the door, echoing throughout the entire room and the entire hallway.
But I slept for too long, and when I sat up from the bed, I didn’t move. My limbs seemed like they h
hadn’t learned how to move again.
I suddenly snapped back to reality when I heard the lock cylinder of the door lock “click” and hit the floor.
Who is it?
Was it the kidnapper? Or was it Xander? I quickly searched the room for something to defend myself with, but I found that everything was bare and
empty.
So I got up and went downstairs. Due to being too flustered, when there were only one or two steps left, I slipped and fell.
“Catherine!”
A clear voice sounded, and I looked up to find Owen standing outside my house, holding a shopping bag, panting and looking nervous.
He rushed over and helped me up, saying, “Are you okay?”
1 was still clueless about the situation.
The locksmith outside the door replaced the lock cylinder with a new one in just a few moves, and then put the tools into his backpack.
“Oh, little girl, your boyfriend knocked on the door for two hours and you didn’t open it. He was really worried”
I was holding my head, feeling drowsy and sleepy, and in my dream, it seemed like I really didn’t hear anything
The locksmith continued, “I heard that you had depression, right? Your boyfriend was worried that you might harm yourself and he was anxiously waiting outside the door. Let me give you a piece of advice, there’s nothing wrong with doing something beautiful, so please don’t lose hope.”
I looked at Owen, who seemed a bit embarrassed, and he let go of me and walked towards the locksmith. “Master, please don’t say anything. I am not her boyfriend. How much does it cost to change the lock?”
The locksmith took the money, wearing a “lowing” expression, picked up his toolbox, and before leaving, he said to me, “Little girl, this young man seems pretty good, give him a chance, will you?”
Owen “thudded the door shut and dared not look at me.
“Sorry, I was afraid you were at home so I called the locksmith, but I didn’t say anything.”
I knew that Owen was a straightforward person, and he would show any emotions on his face. I guess he was really in a hurry just now, which is why the locksmith had such a guess.
“It’s okay, I was just sleeping” In fact, Owen didn’t need to worry at all. If I wasn’t someone who valued life, I wouldn’t have come back from hell.
I licked my chapped lips, and Owen, seeing this, took out a bottle of milk from the shopping bag he had hastily thrown on the ground earlier. He then unscrewed the lid and handed it to me.
I took small sips, the drink was icy cold, as if it had just been taken out of the refrigerator. He seemed to know that I used to drink milk and only liked it cold.
Owen looked around the house for a week, then his gaze fell on me and he noticed that I was still wearing a long dress, albeit slightly wrinkled.
Owen wondered, “How long did you sleep?”
I thought for a moment, “Over two hours?”
Didn’t he say that he knocked on the door for two hours?
Owen’s expression changed strangely as he spoke, “Think about it carefully, it has been two d
days since you signed the contract.”
“Two days?”
I was a bit surprised to see Owen in casual clothes, as I distinctly remember him wearing a suit this morning.
Originally, I had not eaten or drunk anything and had slept for two days and two nights.
Owen already knew the answer, and he reached out his hand to touch the table. Sure enough, there was a layer of dust. Since moving in, I had not cleaned the apartment.
He took off his black jacket, flopped onto the chair, and as he threw it down, a layer of dust was blown up

I didn’t know what he was going to do, so I walked over and sat down on his coat.
He rolled up his sleeves and walked into the bathroom. After some noise, Owen took out a wet cloth and started wiping the dining table, then the coffee
table, and the wardrobe.

Will you take me out for dinner? I felt very curious, especially about how Owen did the houseworld Owen, Xander’s bodyguard, who usually communicates with his fists, turned out to be so meticulous in doing household chores,
After about an hour, Owen finished mopping the floor, then went into the bathroom to wash the sweat off his face, and came
“Did you get impatient?”
The young man had wet hair, with water droplets dripping from the tips of his hair, tracing along his wild features, depicting a naturally rebellious smile.
Inodded absentmindedly, then shook my head.
He laughed heartily and walked over, wanting to reach out and touch my head, but then he thought of something and withdrew his hand.
“Let’s go.”
1 stood up and be took the jacket.
“Can we go for desserts? I heard those girls saying it’s delicious.”
Those girls, they should have been employees of Xander’s company. Owen sometimes had dealings with them too. Did he deliberately inquire about the restaurant as well?
Upon hearing him say that, I also felt a bit hungry. After all, I had slept for two days and two nights, and besides, I hadn’t eaten enough at the Lennox’s villa that day, and even vomited it out.
Just as I took two steps, there was suddenly a sharp pain in my stomach. I rushed to the bathroom, leaning on the toilet, dry heaving. There was nothing in my stomach to vomit, so I only vomited brown blood.
Seeing the situation, Owen, who came in behind me, grabbed my shoulder. He was so thin and weak that it made him look like he was floating in mid–air. “Catherine?”
He helped me to the washbasin and 1 rinsed my mouth with water.
He asked me seriously, “Did you go to the hospital for a check–up after you came back?”
I shook my head.
He immediately lifted me up on his back, took the keys and went downstairs. I was in go much pain on his back that I couldn’t say a word. In the taxi, he, relying on his experience, always held unto my wrist to alleviate the pain in my stomach.
“Master, please drive faster,” Owen urged. The driver, seeing my expression in the rearview mirror, silently increased the speed to the maximum.
I was in a daze throughout the entire process of undergoing examination at the hospital, until the gastric lavage was completed. Owen came to my ward bolding the test report.
He came to sit by my bedside, furrowing his brow as he examined the medical records. The hospital chair was a bit short for him, so he had to spread his long legs apart, with his knees sticking up high,
“Do you want to be hospitalized?” he asked me
“What did the doctor say?”
“The doctor said no, but….”
“I didn’t want to.” I didn’t want to live in a place where there were people coming and going, as it didn’t feel safe.
Owen fell silent for a moment and said, “Alright, but from now on we had to come to the hospital every day, to change the medicine and do the check–up
I could feel that some wounds on my body had been treated.
During this period, you could only drink soup and eat some liquid food every day.

Without Owen saying, I could probably guess that after three months of eating spoiled food every day and going hungry one meal and full the next, my stomach must have been ruined
“Owen.”
“Hmm?”
“But I was very hungry now.
Owen’s eyes were filled with concern as he learned from the doctor that I had probably eaten something digested or vomited out, hence the need for gastric lavage

He gently placed his hand on my forehead, as if to comfort, and assured, “I will make the soup very delicious, trust me, okay?”
