Chapter 4
Perhaps he hadn’t forgotten; maybe he just hadn’t cared enough to remember.
At eight o’clock, I took the cake from the fridge, lit the candles, and prepared the final meal with my own hands. By nine, Thorne still wasn’t answering his phone or replying to my WhatsApp messages. At ten, I slowly finished my steak and drained my glass of red wine.
Just before eleven, Thorne finally called back. The line was silent.
“What is it”
It was only after I spoke that I realized he couldn’t hear me, so I typed the message into WhatsApp, muttering under my breath,

“You always do this. It’s so annoying.”
I waited for his response and then asked, “Today is our seventh anniversary. Do you remember”
Thorne on the other end paused before hurriedly typing back
“Sorry, Selene. Work’s been overwhelming, and I got caught up in it.”
The typing indicator on WhatsApp kept showing, and then I heard a faint sob on his end.
“Alpha Thorne, I’m scared being in the hospital alone. Could you stay with me tonight”
Thorne hesitated for a moment. “But today is… mine and Selene’s…”

“Just for tonight My leg really hurts… just tonight. Tomorrow my mom will come take care of me.”
After nearly a minute of silence, Thorne sent a few more messages
“I’m really sorry, Selene. There’s an urgent matter here, I can’t leave.”
“I was out of line yesterday. Miss Isolde is just a friend, I was just worried about her leg. Can I explain everything tomorrow when I get back”
Then, the call abruptly ended.
Strangely, I didn’t feel anger or frustration. If anything, I found it almost laughable–like I’d seen this coming.

As expected.
Close to midnight, I blew out the candles on the cake.
“Happy anniversary.”
The electronic clock beeped, signaling the start of a new day. I whispered softly, “It’s over. We won’t have an eighth anniversary. Everything’s finished.”
I took one last look at the house filled with seven years‘ worth of memories, then picked up my suitcase and stepped into the taxi.
“Heading to the airport this late, young lady” the driver asked casually.
“Yeah, flying out to get married. I can’t wait anymore,” I answered with a smile.

“Ah, well, congratulations then!”
“Thank you. I’m sure it’ll be a happy marriage.”
From now on, my life would only be filled with happiness.
“Selene, you’re the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen!” my best friend exclaimed, helping me adjust my veil.
I smiled faintly. “You’ll be a beautiful bride
too.”
Today was the wedding between me and one of the boys from The Silverfang Pack.
Sunlight streamed through the church windows, and white flowers carpeted the red carpet. The air was filled with the scent of lilies–my favorite. I took a deep breath to

calm the slight nervousness that lingered in my chest.
“The groom hasn’t arrived yet! I’ll go check!”
Before I could say anything, my best friend happily ran off. I watched her go, letting out a small, helpless laugh.
At this point, I didn’t really care who the “groom” was.
I had once loved someone with all my heart, sacrificed everything for him, only to face such a dismal end.
Now, I no longer held any expectations of love. All I wanted was to fulfill my duties and make my family happy.
Besides, this man held a prominent position in The Silverfang Pack, and he could be

beneficial to my family…
“Selene! The groom’s here!”
The church doors slowly creaked open, and I forced a smile, turning my head.
When I saw the groom’s face, I froze in shock -it was Elias!
“Dr. Elias!” I exclaimed.
Elias smiled gently. “It’s me.”
“Why are you here Are you the boy from The Silverfang Pack who’s supposed to marry
me”
“It’s me, Selene. I’m sorry for not telling you sooner… Actually, I’m the Alpha of The

Silverfang Pack. Being a doctor is also something I’m passionate about…”
I staggered back, panic rising in my chest. “No, I can’t marry you… I’m not worthy of you. Anyone else but you–please, I can’t hold you back!”
Elias furrowed his brow and walked toward me with a calm, determined step that made me freeze.
“You don’t get to decide if you’re a burden, Selene. I want you to be my Luna, and that’s my choice. Every time I get close to you, your scent reminds me–you’re the mate the Moon Goddess chose for me.”
I stared at him, speechless…
Just then, the door was suddenly flung open, and I gasped in surprise.

“Selene, you can’t marry him!”
Thorne rushed in, breathless, his eyes wild and frantic.
“How… how did you find me”
“I’ve been losing my mind looking for you! Charles checked your flight, and I followed right behind.”
Thorne stepped toward me, holding out his hand.
“Selene, I was wrong. Please, come home with me.”
“It’s not what you think with Isolde… We were just catching up, old friends…”
“Let me explain. I’ll tell you everything.”

His voice was desperate, but I couldn’t stop myself from letting out a bitter laugh.
“Explain what Explain how you didn’t kiss her backstage at the theater Explain how you didn’t ditch me at the bar to find her Explain how you’ve treated me like a stand–in for the last seven years!”
The guests and family around us stared in shock, quickly turning their condemnation on Thorne.
Thorne’s face drained of color.
“You… you’ve been able to hear this whole time”
I let out a cold laugh. So, he thought I was just now regaining my hearing He still thought he could explain himself

“You knew all along… and yet, you…
“Kept ignoring me Stayed silent Alpha Thorne, I wanted to see just how disgusting you could really be.”
Thorne clenched his teeth and took a step toward me, but Isolde quickly moved in front of me, grabbing his hand to block him.
“Thorne, it seems you weren’t invited to Selene and my wedding. Please leave.”
“Wait, you… Elias”
Thorne’s eyes widened in recognition, and his gaze turned venomous as he glared at
- me.
“So it’s true, Selene–you’ve really gotten involved with him!”

“You have no room to talk, considering how quickly you moved on yourself.”
“This whole time–every time you saw him, was it just some sneaky date behind my back!”
Slap!
I couldn’t take it anymore. I slapped him across the face.
Thorne recoiled, blood trickling from his lips as he covered his face. His eyes burned with fury, his glare switching between me and Elias.
“Selene, you’ll regret this.”
With that, he spun on his heel and stormed
out.

Thorne was gone, but the wedding had to continue.
Elias, sensing the change in my mood, gently placed his hand on my back, whispering softly.
“It’s okay. I’m here.”
A wave of warmth surged within me.
At that moment, I was so thankful he was here–so thankful that my groom today was Elias, the one who had stood by my side for seven years and knew everything about my past with Thorne.
Otherwise, I didn’t know how I would’ve gotten through this.
With the priest and our family as witnesses,

Elias, the Alpha, took out a ring and knelt before me, just like he did when he first asked if I liked it.
I smiled softly, and in front of everyone, I accepted his ring and his mark.
“I, Alpha Elias, want Selene to be my Luna. I swear with my life, I will love you forever, never abandoning you–not even in death.”
After the ceremony, Elias took me to his villa in Sea City.
