Chapter 6
Without Thorne’s interference, I spent each day practicing my dance, occasionally going for walks with Elias, cooking, and tending to the flowers… I didn’t know when it happened, but a thought started to form in my mind. Spending the rest of my life with this person… maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
That night, Elias hadn’t finished work yet when his mother, Lyra, suddenly visited, carrying a pot of nourishing soup she had made herself. She said it was for Elias to help him regain his strength and insisted I shouldn’t drink any. I understood her intentions, of course, so when Elias came home later that evening, I poured him a bowl.
He was clearly touched, drinking it down in one gulp.

“Selene, thank you for making the soup for me…” he said.
“It wasn’t me who made it, it was Lyra who brought it over tonight.”
Elias’s face changed in an instant. He stood up abruptly, and I hurried to stop him, asking what was wrong. To my surprise, his face flushed deeper, beads of sweat starting to form on his skin. He looked like he might burn up at any moment.
“I–I need to go to the bathroom…” he stammered.
“What’s going on” I insisted, not letting him get away without explaining.
His face grew even redder, and he wouldn’t meet my gaze. Stammering, he said, “My

mom brought us soup in the middle of the night. You–you know what kind of soup it is, right”
Suddenly, everything clicked for me, and I felt my face burn just as hot as his. I quickly let go of his arm, feeling like I might melt from embarrassment. Elias coughed awkwardly and dashed into the bathroom.
I collapsed onto the couch, both exasperated and amused. Lyra must be in a hurry for grandchildren… Maybe Elias and I should take the next step…
As I was lost in thought, my phone rang. I instinctively assumed it was Lyra calling, but when I answered, I was greeted by a voice I found far less welcome.
“Selene, I miss you so much…” Thorne’s slurred voice was clearly intoxicated.

“Without you, I can’t do anything right… I really want to taste that mushroom soup you used to make for me…”
“Not my problem,” I snapped.
Without hesitation, I hung up on him.
I didn’t expect that a month later, at a formal dinner, we’d cross paths again. It was the birthday banquet of Dominic Voss, Alpha King of The Crimson Howl, and The Silverfang Pack had also been invited. As their Alpha, Elias naturally brought his luna along.
“Darling, I’ll go grab some appetizers for you,” Elias said before heading toward the refreshment table. I stood with my wine glass, casually surveying the room. Suddenly, a cold, menacing gaze locked onto me–Isolde.

She was standing with a woman who wore extravagant makeup, and they were whispering to each other, clearly on good terms. I turned my head, intending to ignore them, but before I knew it, the woman charged toward me and, without warning, splashed her drink all over me!
“Miss AAA, what do you think you’re doing!” Elias rushed over from the side as soon as he saw, shoving the woman who had spilled the wine and quickly pulling out a handkerchief to wipe the stain off my clothes.
The woman from The Ironclaw Pack, Miss AAA, sneered. “You’re dirty; no matter how clean your clothes are, it doesn’t change that.”
“Miss AAA, keep that filthy mouth of yours

shut!” Elias barked.
Miss AAA didn’t pay Elias any attention. Instead, she turned to me, a smug look on her face. “Miss Selene, I can hear you just fine. Why are you silent Only letting men come to your rescue, huh”
I glanced at Isolde, who was standing behind. Miss AAA, grinning slyly. I smiled back. “I’d advise you, Miss AAA, not to let others use you.”
“Used Who doesn’t know that you’re the biggest schemer of them all Seven years of deafness, your hearing just fixed, and the moment you turn around, you ditch your ex and hook up with the Alpha of The Silverfang Pack!”

The moment the drink was thrown, a crowd of guests gathered to watch the spectacle. Hearing AAA’s words, several people started eyeing me closely.
“I remember now! She’s Selene! Isn’t she the one who was deaf, and Thorne from the Blackthorn Pack has been taking care of her for seven years”
“That’s right! So, she’s marrying someone else now”
Elias took a deep breath, ready to step forward and argue, but I stopped him.
Then, in the next instant, I slapped Isolde across the face!
The room went silent. Isolde, clutching her reddened cheek, froze for a second before she screamed, “Selene! You bitch! Crazy

woman!”
I smiled coldly and said, “I see that everyone here despises morally corrupt people, so let me help you out by slapping the most despicable one- the mistress who’s been trying to insert herself between me and Alpha Thorne!”
A stunned silence swept across the room, and all eyes shifted to Isolde. She gritted her teeth, about to retort, but at that moment, Thorne walked in through the main door.
“Alpha Thorne, she-”
“Enough,” he interrupted, his voice cold. “Alpha King Dominic Voss is coming. Whether our company can renew the contract depends on tonight’s performance.”
At his indifferent words, Isolde’s eyes welled

with tears, but she held herself together, glaring at me with hatred.
Thorne’s gaze lingered on the hands Elias and I were holding for a few seconds before he turned and walked off with Isolde.
Moments later, Alpha King’s figure appeared in the banquet hall, and Thorne hurried over, greeting him with exaggerated politeness.
A smile tugged at my lips.
“Darling, what’s so funny” Elias asked.
“I’m laughing at Thorne’s plan to renew the contract tonight. It’s about to fail.”
Elias looked at me in surprise. “How’s that possible Alpha King Dominic and Thorne have been working together for seven years
they…”

Before he could finish, the crowd suddenly stirred, and someone yelled, “Alpha Thorne has collapsed!”
A number of guests rushed past us toward the commotion, and whispers spread like wildfire
“Did you hear Alpha King just issued a statement saying he’ll never collaborate with the Blackthorn Pack again!”
“And several other major packs have released statements saying they won’t deal with Alpha Thorne. I heard the previous pack was also in talks to break their contract!”
“So, Alpha Thorne is finished He was already on the verge of being abandoned as the heir to the Blackthorn Pack…”

Elias turned to me, astonished. “Sweetheart, how did you know Alpha King wouldn’t renew with Thorne”
I flashed a small grin, about to explain, but before I could, Alpha King Dominic walked over, smiling.
He extended his hand to me. “Miss Selene, long time no see. Congratulations on your hearing recovery! And this must be your mate, Alpha Elias”
Elias quickly shook his hand, greeting him. He whispered to me, “Selene, do you know him”
Dominic answered for me.
“Seven years ago, a new company approached me for investment. When I did my background check, I found out it was just

another heir relying on their pack’s resources to get by, so I wasn’t interested. But back then…”
Dominic’s gaze shifted to me, and he sighed. “Miss Selene waited for me for three whole days in a blizzard! I asked her why she was pushing herself so hard, and her hands were frozen red, yet she was still frantically signing to me, saying her mate really needed my investment. Even though she was disabled, she wanted to give everything for her boyfriend!”
“So…” Dominic’s tone became serious, “to abandon such a precious girl, I honestly can’t see any worth in Thorne’s character or vision. A person like that is not someone I’d want to collaborate with!”
