During my two days in the hospital, I kept
watching the door, expecting her to show up.
But she never did. She used to fuss over the
smallest scrapes! I hadn’t realized how serious
things were. My pride wouldn’t let me reach out
first. I missed her, so much. It was the first time
we’d been apart in twelve years. I couldn’t
handle it. I dragged my friends out drinking, foolishly believing she’d come get me if I was
drunk enough. She’d always done it before. She
didn’t come. Josh had said she was in Georgia.
How could she? I wanted to see her, to tell her, “Olivia, I love you.”
