I messaged the person who had mocked me earlier and found out which hospital Lily was
- in.
It was a private hospital, with Garrett as the largest shareholder. He’d admitted Lily to his
own hospital.
Seeing Lily, I was surprised. The illness had
ravaged her, leaving her gaunt and skeletal,
her large eyes bulging.
She was equally surprised to see me.
“You and me before, we’re similar.”
“Yeah, but now we aren’t. I’m even more like
you than you were.”
Lily clearly hadn’t expected that comment.
She stared blankly for a moment before
smiling faintly.
I shrugged. Bullying a sick person felt
pointless.
“I just got a tissue match done with you.”
Lily frowned. “A tissue match?”
“Yes. For a heart transplant.”
Her frown deepened.
“If it’s successful, I’ll give you my heart.”
The hospital Lily was in was established by
Garrett after he learned about her congenital
heart disease.
Over the years, the hospital focused on
research for congenital heart disease. In a
short few years, it had become globally
renowned for its advanced technology.
All this was for the woman in the hospital
bed.
At this private hospital, all I needed to do was
apply for the testing.
After saving that. I left the ward Let Lily
ponder it herself.
The matching results came back quickly perfect match, almost tailor–made for Lily.
I frowned, feeling slightly resentful.
That night, the frown lines on Garrett’s forehead were gone, the smell of alcohol was
absent, and his eyes shone with happiness.
He rushed forward, hugging me. “Sarah, I can
be with you tonight.”
A self–mocking smile flickered across my
face. I stiffly patted his back. “Okay.”
He only needed to investigate further and he
would know that it was me.
But he was too happy, his Lily would live.
“Is everything at the company settled?” I
pushed him away, looking into his eyes.
I secretly hoped he’d tell me the truth. But he
didn’t.
“Yeah… It’s settled. I can spend time with
you.”
“Good.”
I gave Garrett one last chance, but he still
didn’t tell the truth.
I visited the hospital again and added Lily on
social media.
“Why did you give me your heart?”
“Because I didn’t want to live anymore.”
That explanation was obviously hard for Lily
to believe.
So I made up another one: “I’m sick and
dying, so I thought I’d do a good deed before
I die to earn some merit.”
Seeing her skeptical expression, I smiled and
left.
She wanted to live, so she wouldn’t tell
Garrett. She couldn’t risk it.
