Chapter 42 The Human Shield
In a critical moment, Scott reached his hand backward.

When Jemima was pulled from behind by him, she felt as if she was about to be flung into the air. She ended up lunging into Naomi’s arms, and they almost kissed.
Jemima was stunned.
I can’t believe he did this. Since when did I become a human shield?
Naomi was utterly exasperated. He rather push his secretary into my arms than let me hold him?
As soon as she left the restaurant, she stormed off.

However, Jemima didn’t have the luxury of throwing a tantrum.
For the sake of a job she had held for less than three days, she simply had to endure.
After getting into the car, she noticed a slight pain in her knee.
Glancing down, she saw faint traces of bruising. It was a result of her fall when he pulled her. She had accidentally banged against his leg. The hardness of a man’s bone is indeed frightening.
Her skin was fair and delicate, so much so that even a gentle bump would leave a bruise that would last for quite a while.
Leaning to the side with one hand propped against his forehead, Scott sat quietly, his eyes closed and his expression as serene as a still pond. He appeared as if he had drifted off to sleep.
Upon arriving at the hotel, Jemima called out to him several time
but he didn’t wake up.
He’s really drunt.
Zander, together with the male hotel attendant, helped Scott back into the room.
The towering figure of a man, standing at one point nine meters tall, had both men breaking out in a sweat from the effort.
“Is your knee alright? Do you need to ice it?” Zander emerged from the bedroom, noticing the injury on her leg.
At this rate, she’ll quit soon. It wasn’t easy to hire someone Mr. Sterling is satisfied with and is impressive at work. She has shown to be extremely competent in many different areas already.
“I going back to my room to do it.”
“Go ahead then. I’ll stay behind and take care of everything here.”
Jemima nodded. “Alright then.”
She reached the door and, suddenly recalling something, she turned around. “You should accompany Mr. Sterling to the summit tomorrow. I won’t be coming in the morning. The factory is on the western side of Jasperwood Island, and it’s a bit of a journey. If I leave early, I can return early as well.”
“Alright, give me a call if you need anything”
Jemima humuned in acknowledgement, then she opened the door and left.
Once back in her room, she took a bath, then sat on the lounge chair with an ice pack on her knee.
Upon contact, the pain made her draw a sharp breath.
In the midst of her pain, she found herself laughing again, feeling both amused and frustrated.
Upon reflection, she felt that this trip was not only for her new job but also a healing process from her divorce. It was quite an exciting and colorful, not any less fulfilling than the solitude she would have felt if she had gone to lapluycia alone.
Amidst her busy schedule, she was too ocupied to even think about Yhurwell.

Chapter 42 The Human Shield
Back at Yhuwell. Amelia had arranged to meet Julius at her law firm.
Finished
Outside the office, the night was pitch black. Yhuwell had experienced a steady downpour all day, causing a sharp drop in temperature. The sky was heavily blanketed by dark clouds, casting a gloomy pallor over the entire city.
Julius was impeccably dressed in a dark grey suit, his hair neatly styled. His face was clean–shaven and was as handsome as ever. He sat on the couch with one leg crossed over the other, exuding a brooding and somber aura.
He was still the same privileged and domineering heir of the Stahl family, unlike the devastated and sobbing man from the day before, who seemed to have lost his mind.
“I thought you’d be upset for a few more days, maybe put on a show for a while longer, Amelia said, her tone laced with sarcasm, “but no matter, it’s better to calm down sooner and do what needs to be done. That’s good too.”
She slid the divorce agreement across the table toward him.
Julius picked it up as if it wasn’t a big deal at all.
Upon flipping to the last page, he saw his own signature.
The date was the day he returned from a business trip to Serathia, which was a month ago.
He recalled the day she entered his office, bringing with her a multitude of documents for him to sign. She was composed at that time, watching him sign with a gentle smile.
“The cooling–off period has already passed. Once Jemma returns, you two can go to City Hall and get your divorce made official. That will mark the end of your marriage,” Amelia stated.
Seeing that he remained silent, she continued. “As for the compensation that Jemma and your mother agreed upon earlier. she said that she will battle you to the end if you guys want to back out. Your mistress has left plenty of evidence of your affair, and you wouldn’t want another charity dinner scandal, would you?”
Julius‘ fists tightened, and the divorce agreement crumpled under his grip..
“When did she find out?” His voice was strained, as if he had been poisoned.

“What? Feeling guilty now, are you? Give it a rest, Julius. What right do you have to feel guilty? Did you feel guilty when you slept with Nadine or when you vacationed with her in Serathia? Did you feel guilty when you watched the sunrise with her, making those childish heart gestures? When was the last time you went home, or even sat down for a proper meal with Jemna? When you got married, you promised her that when you had the time, you’d accompany her to Tapluycia to see the northern lights. But when that time finally came, you tricked her into thinking you were going on a business trip, when in reality, you went away with your mistress.”
