Chapter 44 The Investigation

He hung up the phone and strode into the stormy weather. “Inform the crew that I need to get to Solvenzia immediately. Also… find out if Scott has gone to Solvenzia,” he ordered.
He is the only one in Yhuwell who can whisk my wife away without anyone noticing. I should have thought of it sooner!
After having breakfast the following morning. Jemima returned to her room and changed into a casual business outfit. She slipped on a pair of flat leather shoes and packed a recorder in her bag before leaving the hotel.
Just as Scott was about to set off for the venue, he realized that Jemima was nowhere to be found.
“Where’s Jemima?”
“Oh, she’s gone over to the factory. She noticed some discrepancies in the data and wanted to investigate,” Zander said, holding back some information just in case it was a misunderstanding or a false alarm.
“She isn’t throwing a tantrum and skipping work, is she?” Scott voiced his suspicion.
After he woke up, he remembered how he had pulled her the night before.
“No, no, she really did go to the factory. The issue isn’t big, but it’s not minor either. She wanted to tell you, but your schedule today is too packed, so she said she’d go ahead first,” explained Zander.
Scon nodded and had no further questions
Meanwhile, Jemima took a cab to the factory.
Throughout the journey, she appreciated the beautiful scenery along the way in silence.
Upon arriving at the island factory, she revealed her identity, and the factory manager, along with the administrative and finance staff, came out to receive her. The manager was a man in his early forties, of average height, slightly overweight, and had tan skin. Seeing her, he put on an ingratiating smile.
Both parties briefly introduced themselves.
The factory manager was named Camron, a local who had been working there for fifteen years. He had worked his way up from being a general worker in the workshop.
“We had heard earlier that Mr. Sterling was coming to inspect our branch. We were all thrilled and excited, as everyone was eager to catch a glimpse of him,” Camron said with great enthusiasm.
Jemima stifled her laughter, teasingly said, “I’m afraid you won’t get to see this celebrity this time, as he couldn’t fit it into hist schedule. You’ll have to make do with me, I suppose.”
“Ms. Willis, you’re more beautiful than a beauty queen, how can you say we’re just making do?”
“Mr. Dawson, you sure have a way with words,” she said.
After a seemingly pleasant yet somewhat insincere exchange, Camron began showing Jemima around the executive office area, the workshop, the cafeteria, and other places.
Jemima was in no rush. As she toured around, she would occasionally ask about production matters. Every now and then, she would take out her phone to snap some pictures, indicating that she intended to show them to the CEO later.
Camron happily obliged.
Alter taking a look around, Jemima realized it was already noon. She mentioned that she felt like eating in the cafeteria.
She lined
up with the other employees, and after getting her food, she made a point to sit with three female workers.
Jemima initiated the conversation with some light–hearted topics. Once the atmosphere was relaxed, she then brought up the subject of their work attendance.
The time clock was located at the workshop entrance, with no surveillance cameras in sight.
In other words, even if someone used two cards, they wouldn’t be discovered.

“I’ve heard rumors about this place being haunted,” Jemima whispered.
“Who told you about it?” a female worker asked in surprise.

“The general manager mentioned it, you know. There are two of you here who clock in every day but have shown up.”

The expressions of the three women froze. They were filled with bewilderment, confusion, and anxiety.
After a moment, a slightly older female worker hesitated before saying, “Could it be Morgan Powell and Milania Kennedy?”
Jemima’s eyes lit up. “That’s right! Seems like you know about it.”
“I’ve been here a long time, so I know things the newer employees don’t. When they first started, we didn’t pay much attention. We were all so exhausted from the daily grind that we didn’t have time to keep track of who was coming and going. But as time went on, we noticed there were two names on the staff list that no one recognized, two people no one had ever seen. We asked the workshop supervisor about it, but he curtly told us to stop prying, so we stopped asking”
Another female worker gasped, “What? That sounds so scary? Who clocked in then? A ghost?”
Another female worker was also frightened. “Could it be someone who died in an accident at the factory before? I heard they tend to repeat what they did when they were a
alive.”
Jemima remained silent.
Judging by their reactions, the employees were clueless. She had a voice recorder in her bag that was constantly running, capturing every name they mentioned.
Meanwhile, at the statistician, finance department manager, and Camron were constantly keeping an eye on them.
In the afternoon, Jemima had gathered the supervisors of the workshop, human resources, finance, and statistics department, along with Camron, all in one place.
She smiled, “I’d like to meet Morgan and Milania.”
Everyone was left speechless.
The workshop supervisor walked to the door, abruptly closed it, and locked it.
Jemima’s expression subtly shifted.
She suppressed the displeasure in her heart and calmly asked, “Why lock the door? Is my question…” She paused, glancing at the others. “Something that needs to be kept secret?”
Camron immediately responded with a laugh. “No, no, Ms. Willis, don’t overthink ii. Mr. Bender locking the door doesn’t mean anything. It’s just that matter… should ideally not spread out.”
