Chapter 72 Scott Overheard
Bradley simply told her to take care of herself.

Jemima had braced for every possible scenario. But in the end, nothing happened. The Goodwin family didn’t show up in her neighborhood. They didn’t track down her house. Not even a single nuisance call came through.
Yet, the storm on Twitter hadn’t died down in the slightest.
Are they lying lows, waiting for the perfect moment to strike? Or are they still wary of Scott? He only stood up for me once at the charity dinner. And yet, his influence is this far–reaching!
Speaking of Scott, Jemima realized that ever since she had started staying here, he hadn’t appeared even once. Even Louis had relocated to the servants‘ quarters, only showing up in the kitchen or dining room during mealtimes.
It was clear–Scott was deliberately keeping his distance to avoid any scandals.
At times, the man truly was an attentive gentleman.
One evening. Jemima spotted Louis in the kitchen, busy preparing dinner.
She stepped in to help, casually striking up a conversation. “Mr. Callen, where has Mr. Sterling been staying these past few days?”
Louis chuckled. “Don’t worry, Mr. Sterling isn’t homeless. This place is just a temporary residence–it’s close to his office, so it’s convenient. But after letting you stay here, he went back home for a few days. His parents have been missing him,
anyway.
Jemima nodded in understanding Naturally, Scott must have returned to the Sterling residence.
Louis suddenly smirked, as if recalling something amusing. Leaning in slightly, he lowered his voice and whispered, “Actually, the reason his parents called him back this time was for something important.”
Jemima smoothly played along. “And what “important matter would that be?”
“A blind date.”
She blinked. For a moment, she was speechless. Someone like him still needs to be set up on a blind date?
“As the eldest son, Mr. Sterling’s marriage is of paramount importance to the entire family,” Louis explained. “They actually tried arranging it a couple of years ago during the New Year celebrations. He even met with several young ladies from prestigious families, but nothing came of it. At the time, his focus was entirely on his work in Azania. After the New Year, he leht, and there was nothing Mrs. Sterling could do about it. But now that he’s back in the country, it seems he won’t be able to escape it.”
Jemima sighed. “So, he’s just like everyone else–pressured by his parents to get married.”
It felt almost strange. Matchmaking and marriage pressure–such mundane, ordinary concerns–seemed completely out of place for someone like Scott. A young scion at the pinnacle of society, bathed in prestige and power, he always exuded an air
of untouchable brilliance..
He was supposed to remain aloof and enigmatic, detached from trivial human affairs. That suited him.
Louis let out a knowing sigh. “He’s just naturally indifferent–especially when it comes to matters of the heart.”
Is that so? What about Naomi–the woman he was once entangled with?
Scott might claim he had no interest in women (and perhaps even preferred men), but she found that hard to believe. There had to be something between them–Naomi’s behavior made no sense otherwise.
The most plausible scenario was that they had been deeply in love once. But for reasons left unspoken, Scott had unilaterally ended things, despite Naomi’s lingering devotion. Or perhaps, deep down, he still cared for her. Yet instead of rekindling what they had, he seemed to take a strange satisfaction in watching her suffer–feeding off her torment, drawing out her pain.
In her mind, Jemima was silently filling in the blanks, weaving together the untold story. But she didn’t let a single thought

he meets for a blind date might just capture his heart at first sight.”
“Let’s hope you’re right.” No sooner had the words left her lips than a deep, icy voice echoed from the doorway.
Startled. Jemima turned sharply–only to find Scott standing at the kitchen entrance.
Good heavens, how long has he been standing there! When did he come? What did he hear?

Louis didn’t dare to meet Scott’s eyes. He rarely indulged in gossip, yet the one time he did, he was caught red–handed.
The two culprits, who had just been talking behind their boss’s back, now stood frozen in mutual embarrassment.
Scott cast them a cool, indifferent look. “Stop cooking. Buy some snacks and go chat in the living room.”
Jemima and Louis remained silent. He’s good at sarcasm.
Without another word, Scott withdrew his gaze and left.
After a brief moment of hesitation, Jemima decided to follow, She trailed him all the way to the study, watching as he stepped inside. A short while later, he reemerged, carrying a few items. Without breaking stride, he made his way straight to the door. clearly having only dropped by to retrieve something
As he reached the foyer, just moments from stepping out, Jemima opened her mouth, intending to smooth things over with an apology. But in her haste, her words tumbled out in a jumbled mess. “R–Right, dinner’s ready. Will you eat?”
Scott turned slightly, his stunning, deep–set eyes curving with amusement. He gazed at her with an insincere half–smile. “No. I’m busy with a blind date,” he drawled. “Who knows? I might just find my destined partner.
Jemima was momentarily speechless. His words dripped with mockery–clearly throwing her earlier remarks back at her.
Scott turned and walked away.
Jemima let out a silent sigh, deflated.
Must he be so petty? She mentally replayed her conversation with Louis, scrutinizing every word she had said, yet found. nothing inappropriate–just casual well–wishes.
