Chapter 73 Hayden Called

Louis stepped out from the kitchen and gave her a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry. Mr. Sterling isn’t the type to hold grudges. He’ll forget about it soon. Come on, let’s eat.”
Jemima, however, wasn’t as optimistic. But at this point, there was nothing she could do.
She realized that offending Scott was as effortless as breathing–one careless remark was all it took to displease him.
As a result, her appetite waned during dinner.
Halfway through her meal, her phone rang. The caller ID made her pause–it was her father–in–law.
She could ignore Amanda’s calls and even block Julius without hesitation, but Hayden was different.
Perhaps it was his amicable demeanor toward her, combined with the commanding presence befitting an elder. Add to that his position as the chairman of Kingsford Group, and she couldn’t help but afford him a certain level of respect.
After a brief silence, she set down her fork and answered. “Hello, Mr. Hayden.”
That was how she had always addressed him–polite yet detached, whether at home or in public.
The Stahl elders had never liked her calling them by their names, and she had no intention of humiliating herself by forcing familiarity where it wasn’t wanted.
“Jemima, you and Julius need to sit down and talk things through,” Hayden’s voice was calm yet carried an undeniable weight. “Avoiding him won’t resolve anything. Come home tomorrow night.”
-There’s nothing left to discuss, Jemima replied evenly. “He’s already signed the divorce papers. If you’re going to talk to anyone, convince him to finalize the remaining formalities. Once that’s done, I’ll have no ties left to him or the Stahl family. It’ll be over.”
Her tone was composed, as if she were discussing someone else’s affairs rather than her own shattered marriage–a marriage she had once given her all to.
She accepted her loss without bitterness, but that didn’t mean she would ever forget the pain. Even after the wound healed, the scar would remain.
A long silence stretched over the line before Hayden finally spoke. “Just come over. No matter what you’ve decided, this isn’t something that can be resolved by you alone. In a marriage, if one side refuses to cooperate, things won’t proceed as expected Ultimately, both parties need to sit down and face the reality of the situation–don’t you think?”
Jemima remained silent.
Hayden spoke again, his tone steady yet firm. “Having a meal won’t do any harm. Consider it a favor to me.”
She weighed his words carefully.
After a long pause, she finally said. “All right then.”
Her agreement had nothing to do with respect for Hayden. She had already left Kingsford Group and was on the verge of divorcing his son–her ties to the Stahl family were as good as severed. His dignity was no longer a factor in her decisions.
Rather, she saw an opportunity. If she could use this dinner to steer the conversation toward business, perhaps she could
conviner Hayden to reason with Julius and put an end to his futile pursuit once and for all.
While Jemima was on the phone, Louis, standing nearby, could hear the conversation.
With a worried expression, he approached and cautioned, “What if it’s another setup, like last time? You need to be extremely
“You’re right” Jemima nodded.
Although she didn’t believe Hayden would stoop to such despicable tactics, Amanda had already set a precedent, making her realize she couldn’t afford to be careless. “I’ll hire bodyguards for protection tomorrow, so there’s no need to worry,” she

The following afternoon, around four o’clock, Jemima–dressed impeccably–headed to the Stahl residence, accompanied by two professional bodyguards.
Her leg had healed the day before, and she could walk normally again. Yet, she deliberately remained in a wheelchair, feigning injury
If things took a dangerous turn and her bodyguards were overwhelmed, she could use the deception to catch her enemies off guard and seize the opportunity to escape.
After much deliberation, Louis made a decision. He picked up his phone and called Zander, urging him to find a way inform Scott that Jemima had gone to the Stahl residence.

She had sought refuge with them to heal in peace and avoid any disturbances. Now, she had ventured out into the lion’s den, and Louis felt it was only right to inform Scott.
However, after last night’s awkward incident, he hesitated to make the call himself.
Instead, he turned to Zander. Though unsure why Louis wanted him to relay the message. Zander didn’t question it. Louis. was his senior, after all. He simply agreed, left his office, and made his way to Scott’s.
At that moment, Scott stood by the window, engaged in a phone call. Whatever the caller had said must have amused him, ast a low chuckle escaped his lips. A knock sounded at the door. Without turning, he ended the call and said, “Come in.”
Zander stepped inside, unaware Scott had just been on the phone. Without hesitation, he spoke urgently as he approached. “Mr. Sterling, Ms. Willis has gone to the Stahl residence.”
Scott’s eyes telling me?”
darkened ever so slightly, but his voice remained cold and detached. “If she wants to leave, let her. Why are you
“Because…” Zander hesitated. For a brief moment, he considered saying what was on his mind–Because I thought you’d be worried too. But the words never left his lips. Instead, he swallowed them down, realizing that Scott had no reason to be concerned. This was Jemima’s personal affair.
“Get out,” Scott ordered.
Without another word, Zander swiftly exited.
Scott picked up his phone. On the other end, a man laughed heartily. “Who’s this Ms. Willis? A new recruit? Sounds like a woman. You seem to value her.”
Scott’s response was indifferent. “Just a secretary. Nothing more.”
