Chapter 9 Fake Concern
Swiftly, Julius removed his blazer and crouched down, draping it over Nadine’s exposed body.
Nadine was wailing and shouting, as if the world was coming to an end.
“Jemima, get out!” Julius was livid, completely oblivious to the terrifying pallor that had taken over Jemima’s face.
Regaining his composure from the shock, Ronan quickly moved to support Jemima. “Are you all right!”
Jemima gritted her teeth, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. “Julius, you truly disgust me.”
She brushed off Ronan’s hand, barely able to stand, yet she insisted on walking by herself.
Julius‘ heart tightened. Jemima looked as if she would never cross this threshold again.
He felt a wave of panic.
“It seems Mrs Ms. Willis has injured her back quite badly,” Ronan stated.

Julius‘ gaze faltered momentarily as the weight of his thoughtless actions pressed down on him. The memory of her pained expression flooded back, and despite Nadine’s inconsolable state, he immediately stood up and hurried after jemnima
“Mia, I want to end things early. I really can’t bear to see his face anymore.”
Jemima leaned against the corner of the elevator as she made the phone call. Her voice held a choked sob that she was desperately trying to suppress.
She couldn’t return to the project department in such a disheveled state. All she could do was bear the pain, leave the office, and drive to the new house.
Amelia detected the despair in her voice and immediately grabbed her bag and car keys. “Where are you?”
Jemima mentioned an address.
“All right, I’ll be right there,” Amelia replied. D’mn you, Julius!
She wasn’t just Jemima’s divorce lawyer, but also her childhood friend. She knew Jemima well. Despite her gentle and delicate exterior, she was innately proud and strong–willed. From the moment she discovered Julius infidelity up until now, she was clearly in pain. Yet, she remained composed, preparing for the divorce without shedding a single tear in front of her.
Had she not been hurt to her very core, she would never have acted this way!
“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
Jemima ended the call, leaning against the wall with her eyes closed.
Her long hair obscured her face, blocking out all the surrounding light. Her thoughts seemed to be pulled into an endless vortex of darkness, continuously falling deeper and deeper.
The elevator was so silent that one could hear a pin drop. Suddenly, a rich and clear male voice broke the quiet. “Are you done?”
Jemima abruptly opened her eyes and turned her head.
In her line of sight, she noticed his broad shoulders clothed in black, contrasting against his pale, slender neck. The black and white combination gave him an elegant, icy allure. As her gaze moved upward, she locked eyes with a pair of deep, almond- shaped eyes staring right at her.
“It’s you…”
Jemima recognized him and thought it was over. She continued to stare at him wide–eyed..
Scott Sterling felt a deep sense of frustration with the woman standing before him.

and stayed put
Scott leaned over, his height of six feet four inches making him seem
seem like a towering mountain.

Instinctively. Jemima raised her hand to shield herself. “What are you
Before she could finish speaking, a slender and elegant hand rested on her arm, palm facing outward. Then, he gently pushed her aside and reached for the fingerprint lock.
It was only then that Jemima managed to clear her head from the foggy state of mind she had been in.
She realized the elevator hadn’t moved because she hadn’t pressed the button
She had even blocked the fingerprint lock, preventing others from using it.
She felt truly awkward.
The elevator began its ascent.
When the number reached five, she stealthily reached out to touch the fingerprint lock and noticed his floor: the forty–sixth floor, the topmost level.
She awkwardly shifted to the side. The atmosphere was ecrie.
At that moment, the vibration of a phone echoed from the side. A deep voice tinged with a hint of coldness seeped into her ears. “What’s the matter? Hmm? Measurements? Ms. Willis is asking…
Jemima turned her head stiffly. At that moment, she was so mortified that she was nearly losing her mind, her vision blurring
She took a deep breath and asked, “Would it be convenient for you to tell me?”
Scott’s expression was calm and unruffled, like the still surface of a dark lake.
Ding!
The elevator doors slid open.
Jemima, clutching her waist as if she’d been saved, quickly stepped out.
When Amelia arrived, she found Jemima sprawled out on the large bed in the bedroom. She appeared to have regained her composure. lying there with an ethereal beauty despite her brokenness
Arnelia crouched beside the bed and asked softly, “What happened?”
Jemima focused her gaze for a moment.
The mishap in the elevator carlier had disrupted everything, yet it had somehow freed her from the grip of negativity. Her mind had finally found peace.
She recounted the events that had transpired at the company, maintaining a calm demeanor throughout the narration.
Amelia, however, was visibly angered.
“You were still in Kingsford Group, yet he couldn’t wait to bring that seductress into the company. He flaunted her right in front of everyone and even had the nerve to push you aside! He’s totally infatuated, isn’t he? He’s so shameless he didn’t even bother hiding it! Jemma, they’re openly challenging you now. Are you sure you still just want to get a divorce?”
Jemima stirred slightly, trying to turn over, but a sharp pain shot through her waist.
She stayed sprawled out, giving up on any attempt to move. “You know, I didn’t choose this path because I was afraid of him. I want to make it clear that I rejected him first. I have no sentiment for a man who’s completely dirty and rotten. I’ll toss him out like trash”
Amelia’s eyes softened with a hint of heartache.
She rubbed temima’s head and said “If you’re as amazing as you say how did you end un like this?”

nished:
“I acted on impulse.” Jemima replied with a self–mocking smile. “In half a month, even if they bare it all in front of me, I guarantee I won’t bat an eye”
“Aren’t you afraid of ruining your eyes?”
“It’s just animals mating. I’ll only throw up at most.”
“That could also hurt your stomach.”
Amelia spent
some time with her. After ensuring she was all right, she headed to the pharmacy to buy a medicinal patch and then applied it to her back.
The sky outside had already darkened.
Julius had searched everywhere that Jemima would usually go. He even called all her friends and went as far as visiting her parents. Yet, he still couldn’t find her.
Amelia was the first one Julius called, but she claimed she didn’t know anything.
she didn’t pick up the second time he called. By the tenth call, Jemima spoke up. “Answer it, he probably knows you left the law firm this afternoon.”
“That jerk is finally panicking.” Amelia said, walking over to the balcony to answer the call. She launched into a tirade, “Julius, isn’t it great that Jemima’s gone? Now there’s no one to interfere with you and that little winch. Isn’t that just wonderful?”
Ass
soon as she said those words, Julius was certain they were together. “Get her on the phone.
“She can’t. I don’t know where she is. Maybe she’s so distraught she jumped into the sea. Want to try searching for her in the
water
After saying that, Amelia immediately hung up, wanting to drive Julius to the brink of madness.
Julius expression remained cold.
Just then, Amelia’s phone rang again as Jemima stepped out. “Let me answer that.”
Amelia handed her the phone.
Jemima picked up the call. “Stop bothering Mia. I’ll go back.”
There was a brief silence on the other end. The man’s breathing grew heavier and more labored. His voice carried a note of concern. “Where are you? I’m coming to get you. How’s the wound on yourwaist? Is it still hurting?”
Jemima burst into laughter. “Julius, your fake concern really creeps me out.”
