- 6.
Holden was the youngest, pampered his
whole life.
Fearless, he only feared his brother.

Grandpa Holden was strict but doted on his
grandchildren.
Not Harrison.
He never spared Holden.
When Harrison was in the country, Holden
and I had peaceful times.
He feared his brother, behaving himself.
Later, the Holdens expanded, Harrison took
over overseas business.
Without restraint, Holden revealed his true
nature.
He found me boring, falling for Susan. Again and again, he trampled my dignity.
Our marriage.
Now, Holden was like a mouse before a cat.
Harrison looked coldly at his brother, holding
my hand tight.
“The Holden–Shen marriage was arranged, I
gave Nancy to you because I loved her,
burying my feelings.”
“You’re close in age, grew up together, she’s
always liked you.”
“Her happiness is more important than possessing her, but what did you do?” Holden’s lip trembled, speechless.
Over nine years of marriage,
He gave all his love and attention to Susan. Leaving me only tears and hurt.
I lowered my head, softly saying, “It’s over.”
I didn’t want to waste words.
Harrison understood.
“I’ll take you home.”
“I know excellent doctors abroad, I’ll build the
best medical team for you, we’ll have our
wedding when you’re better.”
I shyly nodded, holding the roses.
This stung Holden.
A
He followed us, whining, “You can’t do this to
me, Nancy is my wife, she loves me…‘
“I did love you, but you betrayed me.”
I interrupted.
“Our families arranged the marriage not for
me to marry you specifically.‘
“From now on, I’m your sister–in–law, show
respect.”
In the early years, I suffered for Holden.
I couldn’t understand why he became this
way.
Then I understood.
The Shens were weak, Holden looked down
on me.
He knew the marriage bound me.
No matter how awful he was, I’d beg for
reconciliation.
So he hurt me without restraint.
He forgot, the Holdens had more than one
son.
I chose him out of love, I could leave him for
lack of it.
Holden tried to take my hand.
Harrison’s cold gaze stopped him.
He had an undeniable authority.
<
“Holden, I admire your love for Susan.”
“Be prepared to pay the price, I won’t pamper
you like Grandpa!”
Harrison drove away.
Through the rearview mirror, I saw Holden
running behind.
He fell, defeated.
Harrison looked at me.
“Jealous?”
I shook my head, looking at my wounds,
wanting to cry.
“If only you’d come sooner.”
“If only I’d known you liked me sooner.”
I wouldn’t have suffered in a loveless
marriage.
Wouldn’t have these wounds.
Harrison’s lips tightened.
“Believe me, I’ll make up for it.”
“I’ll protect you!”
