Chapter 15
I thought he’d gone back home.
Instead, he showed up at my studio.
His first words: “I’m your fan. I donated to
your song.”
It was him.
But why?
“Well, thank you, John.”
My words seemed to darken his mood.
He hesitated. “Jessica and I are getting
divorced.”
“She’s not the same after the baby. You
wouldn’t have let yourself go like that.”
I stared at him, bewildered.
“Why are you telling me this?”
He bit his lip, looking down. “I’m saying you
have another chance.”
“Stop this charade, break up with Kevin, and
I’ll keep my promise. We’ll be together.”
I was beyond surprised. It was comical.
Did he think I was a recycling bin for his
unwanted affections?
“John, are you serious?”
r
I laughed.
“Kevin and I are deeply in love. We’re getting
married.”
“I don’t love you. You’re just my older
brother.”
His face drained of color, his fists clenching.
“Ashley, stop pretending. You love me.”
“I did. Not anymore.”
“John, I sincerely hope you and Jessica work
things out. She’s a good woman. Now please
leave.”
I ushered him out.
<
I’d loved him for a decade, truly wanted to
marry him.
Now, I wanted him gone.
