Chapter 6
Asher raised his hand to slap me. But before he could touch me, Parker caught his wrist, his voice cold and steady. “You might want to think twice. Hitting someone in front of a lawyer isn’t a wise move.”
Asher glared at me, his face twisted with anger, while Camilla stood behind him, her eyes wide with mock innocence. She glanced at items in my cart and pointed, feigning surprise.

“Oh my, you’re already buying new bedding? Avery, I know you’re upset, but isn’t it a bit quick to be shacking up with someone else? This must be a slap in the face to Asherl
Asher’s eyes darkened with murderous glint, but then his gaze fell to my waist, his expression turning ashen. “Avery! What about…our baby?”
Today, I wore a fitted sweater, which accentuated my figure. I was only a low months along, and my stomach showed just a slight curve. I gave a bitter laugh. “I already told you the baby is gone.”
He didn’t believe me, his eyes filling with rage as he violently scattered the contents of my cart. “You got rid of our baby for him?” he accused
I frowned, finding him utterly unreasonable. People around us started noticing the commotion, and soon a small crowd had gathered.
Camilla tugged at him, her voice filled with concern. “Asher, everyone’s staring…“}
But he kept his gaze locked on me. “Avery, we waited six years to have that child! How could you?“!
I couldn’t help but laugh at the irony. “Asher, anyone else has the right to ask that question–except you.”
“Do you remember the car accident from a few weeks ago? I was lying nearby, bleeding and clutching my stomach, calling you to take me to the hospital, But you hung up before I could even finish.”
“What were you doing that was so important? Oh, right–you were busy securing Camilla’s seatbelt and kissing her.”
“That’s when our baby was lost, Asher. You killed that child.”
Asher staggered back, his face ghostly pale. “What… are you saying? No… That’s impossible!”
“Liar!” he stammered. “You never mentioned an accident.”
But even as he said it, his own face betrayed the truth. He remembered, now–the sight of dried blood in the driveway as he’d returned that night with Camilla. He’d even laughed it off.
“No,” he muttered, collapsing to the floor, shaking his head. “No, the baby couldn’t have been that fragile…!
I ignored him, turning to Parker as we gathered the scattered items and headed for checkout.
How that scene ended in the supermarket, I didn’t know, and I didn’t care. Three days later, after double–checking the divorce agreemen sent Asher a message!!
