. My parents were still troubled by Kyla’s blood type discrepancy.
It wasn’t until they received a phone call that Dad gasped in shock.
“What did you say? You mean you found the wrong child?”
Mom looked at him in confusion as he put the phone on speaker, and the police officer’s voice came through clearly.
“Sorry, the intern officer made an error with the records. The Kyla you know is not your biological daughter.
“She was also abducted. Her age is similar to your youngest daughter’s, so the mistake was made.”
Dad froze, and the disbelief in his voice was palpable.
“Then… then where is our daughter?”
The police officer spoke seriously, “According to the confession of the trafficker, after they kidnapped her, they found her breath faint and discarded her in the river.”
Mom nearly fainted at the news, and I had to hold her up.
Dad tried to compose himself, about to thank the officer, when the officer added,

“By the way, the trafficker gave us something. It was a pendant that matches the one your youngest daughter wore.
“They had planned to abduct both children, but your oldest daughter fought back, kicking and hitting them. The kidnappers only managed to tear off her pendant before she managed to escape.”
Dad hesitated, and his voice shook. “So… Sophie didn’t intentionally abandon her sister?”
“How could she ever be so heartless? The kidnappers said she had always wanted to save her sister, but she was too young and weak to fight off the adults. Just escaping was already impressive.”
The truth was finally revealed.
The explanation I had been unable to offer all those years finally came to light.
Finally, they realized they had misunderstood me for years.
It wasn’t that I had left Kyla behind on purpose. It was that I had tried to save her, but I was simply too small and powerless to fight the kidnappers.
They had never believed me, but they had trusted the imposter who had claimed to be my sister.
Dad put down the phone in a daze. Mom, filled with regret and

sorrow, pulled me into a tight embrace.

Just then, Kyla, still weak from her injuries, stumbled into the room, her body frail like a flower on the verge of wilting.
“Mom, Dad, why weren’t you with me?
“Sophie, I know you don’t like me, but how could you leave me like that when I needed you most?”
Dad couldn’t bear her lies any longer and slapped her across the face.

. Kyla looked at Dad in shock, clutching her swollen face as she
cried out.
“Dad, why did you hit me? Mom, look at him! I almost died… How could you do this to me?”
Dad snorted coldly.
“Don’t call me Dad. I’m not your father!”
Kyla, hurt and confused, took a step forward.
“Dad, look at me. I’m your most beloved daughter, Kyla!”
But Dad shoved her away with disgust.
The stitches on her freshly healed wound split open, and Mom’s eyes flickered with a hint of pity, but she didn’t move to help.
Kyla finally seemed to realize something was wrong.
“Mom, Dad, what’s going on? Did Sophie say something to you again?”
She looked at me with false humility.
“Sophie, I know you didn’t mean to leave me behind back then. Even if you were mad at me, you shouldn’t have gone.
