Chapter

I didn’t answer the call. Instead, I switched off my phone completely

The flight stretched endlessly ahead of me as I closed my eyes, trying to lose myself in the infinite darkness. That’s when the memories I’d been avoiding came flooding back, playing like an old movie in my mind

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Nolan. It was at Skylar’s mansion, during one of those dramatic summer storms where the rain lashed against the windows like nature’s own percussion section. The wind howled, hurling raindrops against the glass in angry bursts

I’d gone there looking for my father, who worked as their chauffeur. Skylar, ever the princess, refused to let the household staff open the door for me, claiming I was too dirty to be allowed inside their precious home

So there I stood, shivering in the doorway, my white school blazer and skirt completely soaked through. The expensive uniform that had taken my father three monthly payments to afford now clung to me like a second skin, turning mortifyingly transparent. I hugged myself tightly, trying to preserve what little dignity I had left as passing cars splashed through puddles, their occupants staring at the pathetic sight I must have made

That’s when he appeared

Nolan sat in the back of a sleek black Bentley, and even through the rainstreaked windows, those deep eyes of his cut right through the gloom. Though the rain blurred his features, those eyes remained crystal clear intense, magnetic, impossible to look away from

His driver stepped out into the downpour, bringing me an umbrella and a blue dress shirt that probably cost more than my entire wardrobe. The fabric carried the faintest hint of vanilla, warm and comforting like a gentle embrace

As I accepted the umbrella, time seemed to stand still. Though Nolan never looked directly at me, I could feel the gentleness in his gaze, so different from the cold stares I usually received at the

mansion

That shirt became my most treasured possession. For years, I kept it safely tucked away, taking it out sometimes just to remember that rainy evening when a stranger had shown me more kindness than the people I’d known all my life

After that day, I couldn’t keep my eyes off him. But his? They were always fixed on Skylar. I resigned myself to loving him silently, careful never to let my feelings show. He was the golden boy, born into privilege and destiny. I was just the chauffeur’s daughter the help’s kid. A relationship between us existed only in my daydreams

Then Skylar left for school abroad, and everything changed. Nolan confessed to me though I later learned it was just to spite her, knowing she’d hate seeing him with someone like me. But to my love- struck heart, it felt like a miracle. I couldn’t believe someone like him could ever choose someone

like me

I treated our relationship like spun glass, terrified that one wrong move would shatter everything. Those first two years, Nolan remained distantnever initiating contact, never showing affection. His heart clearly belonged to Skylar still, while I endured the arctic chill of being second choice. Then my father died in a car accident, and my world imploded. I remember sitting on the floor of our tiny apartment, completely hollow, too shocked even for tears

And just like that rainy day years ago, Nolan appeared when I needed him most

He crouched down and gently pulled me into his arms, his voice deep and comforting. You still have me. I’ll always be here for you,”

I collapsed into his embrace and finally let go, breaking down in heartwrenching sobs. All my grief, despair, and loneliness transformed into tears that flowed freely down my cheeks..

Nolan held me tight against his chest, as if trying to absorb all my pain into himself. His embrace was warm and steady, giving me a sense of security I’d never known before

That was the day he brought me to his home. The soft lighting in his room cast a gentle warmth that seemed to chase away the shadows of despair from my heart

He kissed me then, for the first time on his own initiative. His lips were gentle yet certain, carrying a tender hesitation as if trying to comfort me, making me feel safe in a way I’d never experienced

before

My relationship with Nolan began to shift, slowly but surely

He stayed with me through those dark days, offering not just emotional support, but physical comfort as well. Every time he reached out to touch me, it felt like a promise that he would face everything by my side

I still remember that night vividly

He drew me into his arms, his lips finding mine again, this time with deeper, more passionate intent. His kiss held an indescribable tenderness, as if he could melt away all my sorrows with just his touch, One hand traced soothing patterns on my back while the other slid to my waist, pulling me closer against him. His body felt strong and warm against mine, igniting waves of desire I couldn’t

He lowered me gently onto the soft mattress, his kisses trailing from my forehead to my cheeks, then down to my neck, each touch leaving a tender mark of his devotion

Electric shivers ran through my body, making me press even closer to him instinctively

His hands began to explore, moving from my shoulders to my waist, then down to my thighs, each caress making my heart race faster

His kisses traveled lower, finding my collarbone before following the curves down to my chest. Waves of pleasure coursed through me, making my skin hypersensitive to his every touch

He carefully undressed me, his fingers trailing across my skin, each touch sending my pulse racing higher

His kisses grew more intense, and I could feel his breathing becoming as ragged as my own. Our gasps and soft moans intertwined in the passionfilled air

His body pressed against mine, our skin touching everywhere, as if we were becoming one. My legs wrapped around his waist instinctively, moving in perfect rhythm with him, each movement bringing waves of pleasure and satisfaction

Sweat dampened our skin as his kisses traced a path from my neck to my collarbone and lower still, his lips and tongue sending waves of pleasure through my body. His fingers ghosted along my inner thigh, slowly exploring deeper, making my breath catch in my throat. Every cell in my body craved his touch, each movement he made sending irresistible shivers of delight through me

Finally, he whispered in my ear, his voice deep and seductive, as his body pressed closer to mine until our breaths mingled into one. After our passionate encounter, he held me tight against him, as

if terrified I might vanish into thin air. Looking at him beside me, my heart swelled with unprecedented contentment and peace

I thought that night meant he’d finally accepted me completely not just emotionally, but physically too. So when Nolan proposed, I felt like I was floating on cloud nine, drunk on happiness like it was all a beautiful dream. I threw myself into planning our wedding, daydreaming about our future life

together

But at the height of my happiness, he delivered the cruelest blow. I’d seen him as my knight in shining armor, my savior from life’s storms. Little did I know he was just a passerby who happened to

lend a helping hand

I was naive enough to believe that true love would be reciprocated, that patience would eventually be rewarded. But now I understand. I don’t need him anymore

Stepping off the plane, I spotted Mindy in the crowd, wearing a black offshoulder cocktail dress, her long hair cascading over her shoulders, her face lit up with an excited smile. She practically tackled me with her enthusiastic hug, nearly knocking me off balance

Lily, you’re finally here! I’ve missed you so much!she squealed, squeezing me tight as if trying to make up for months of separation in one embrace

Girl, I’ve lined up some total hotties for you,she whispered conspiratorially in my ear. We’re going to show Nolan what an idiot he was to let you go. You’re a catch, and he must’ve been blind not to

see it.”

I burst out laughing, thinking she was joking. But before I could even properly unpack, she dragged. me to an upscale bar in the heart of downtown. The place was dimly lit, with music pulsing through. the air and the mingled scents of expensive cologne and craft cocktails creating an intoxicating

atmosphere

Mindy guided me through the crowd, pushing me onto a plush leather couch. Around us sat three gorgeous guys, each with modelworthy looks and magnetic smiles. She introduced them as Alex

Alex handed me a cocktail, his fingers lingering deliberately against mine during the exchange. The brief contact sent a warm tingle through my skin.

I accepted the drink, acutely aware of the electricity that seemed to spark between our touching fingertips

Lucas moved even closer, his body nearly pressed against mine as he whispered in my ear, There are stars in your eyes tonight. You’re the center of attention here.”

Matthew was even more forward, reaching out to gently brush a stray lock of hair from my face, his gaze heavy with unmistakable desire

I responded with a subtle smile, playing along with their flirtatious advances

The intoxicating mix of alcohol and music helped me forget my troubles, losing myself in the wild energy of the moment. The bass pulsed through my body as I let the chaos of the club wash over

  1. me

Alex and Lucas took turns engaging me in conversation, each word and gesture loaded with suggestion and temptation. Their attention felt like a dangerous game, but tonight I didn’t care

about consequences

Matthew remained a constant presence at my side, occasionally brushing against my shoulder or arm. Each seemingly casual touch sent my heart racing, adding to the electric atmosphere between

  1. us

Under the pulsing lights of the club, our gazes kept meeting in loaded exchanges, the air around us thick with an intimacy that words couldn’t capture

It wasn’t until the night’s revelry finally wound down that I thought to check my phone

When I turned it on, it nearly crashed from the notifications. Nolan had called hundreds of times and sent countless text messages

I felt a moment of genuine surprise. In our seven years together, I could count on one hand the number of times he’d called me first

I was about to ignore it when my phone started ringing again. Nolan

With a resigned sigh, I answered. His voice came through sharp with anger and anxiety: Lily, where the hell did you run off to?”

Why did you leave me at the altar? Do you have any idea that I waited for you all day at the church? The anger in his voice was clear, but beneath it lay something more vulnerable worry and insecurity

Tell me where you are right now. Give me the address. I’m coming to get you.”
