Chapter 15%
The day of the bidding meeting came quickly.!!
Heston was probably too busy with work to come looking for me.
I changed into a beige business suit and tied all my hair up.
At the conference room entrance, Henrik spotted me.
“You look beautiful today.”
“Thanks, you look great too.”
Henrik pointed at the sign for FitzTech Innovations inside. “I bet Heston’s reaction when he sees you will be priceless.”
“I’m looking forward to it.”
Companies arrived one after another, I waited by the door, and before long, I saw Heston walk in with Wendolene.
Both of them were dressed impeccably, clearly taking this bidding event seriously.
The moment Heston saw me, his brows furrowed. “What are you doing here?”
Wendolene smirked, her red lips curling. “Yvonne, this isn’t a bar where you can just show up whenever you want. I’d leave now if I were you–unless you want to be humiliated when they throw you out later “2
Now that the bar incident had blown up, she had no qualms about openly going against me.!!
Heston didn’t correct her, his face dark. “Whatever it is, we’ll talk after this event. I need to have a serious conversation with you about what happened last time.“X
I suddenly laughed. Even now, Heston still thought I was here to win him back.
I adjusted the name badge pinned to my chest. “VerdantCore Technologies’s Marketing Director. I’m not just some random nobody.”
Heston’s hands clenched into fists, a flicker of panic in his eyes. “You’re VerdantCore Technologies’s Marketing Director? That’s impossible!”
I hadn’t been with the company long, and unless someone had been digging into my background, no one would’ve known.
Wendolene’s face twisted with shock and anger. “Why the hell would VerdantCore Technologies even hire you? You think you deserve that position?”
“I trust Director Quillian is more than qualified for her role,” a voice interrupted. “But as for you, Miss Tennyson… your abilities seem questionable. Mr. Fitzhugh, having a secretary like her.. tsk tsk, how embarrassing.”
I looked up. Henrik had stepped out of the conference room, standing firmly on my side!
Heston and Wendolene both turned toward him, visibly stunned.
Wendolene nearly lost her footing. This man… he looked exactly like the one from the bar.
Heston’s expression was unreadable. “You’re… Mr. Hollister?“.
He’d seen Henrik’s face in finance magazines, at gala events. Last night, the lighting had been dim, so he hadn’t recognized him.
Recalling how close Henrik and I had been at the bar, his tone turned heavy. “You two knew each other before? What’s your relationship?“%
Henrik responded indifferently. “That’s none of your business. Director Quillian, come inside with me.”
I smiled at them before following Henrik in.
Their reactions were exactly what I had imagined. Absolutely priceless!
Hennik shot me a knowing look. “Satisfied?“%
“Very”
I understood now–FitzTech Innovations wouldn’t have had this opportunity in the first place. VerdantCore Technologies had given them a spot… just for my amusement.
Throughout the bidding event, Heston and Wendolene sat stiffly, uneasy, constantly worried about VerdantCore Technologies retaliating.
I stood in the corner, watching them squirm.X
This kind of invisible pressure–the kind that gnaws at you, keeps you on edge–was far more effective than any direct attack.
By the end of the meeting, both of them were drenched in cold sweat.
After freshening up in the restroom, I ran into Wendolene touching up her makeup.X
She caught sight of me, her eyes burning with hatred.!!
“Yvonne, you’ve known Mr. Hollister all along. You set us up!”
I washed my hands calmly. “Oh? Did I force you two to come bid here? If you don’t have what it takes, maybe don’t try to squeeze into a circle that doesn’t want you.”
I flicked the water off my hands. “I really hope FitzTech Innovations doesn’t go bankrupt too soon.”
Because if it did, what would I have to play with?%
What’s more entertaining than watching a cheating bastard and a homewrecker panic?!
I turned to leave, but then I heard Wendolene’s voice behind me.”
“Yvonne, I’m marrying my cousin.”
She held up her hand, showing off the diamond ring–my diamond ring.
“He already proposed. We’re getting married soon, and you? You’re just a discarded woman. Mr. Hollister will never want you.“%
Hearing this didn’t stir anything in me.
“Congrats,” I said flatly. “You’ve been sneaking around for years–this was bound to happen eventually.”
Wendolene sneered. “And you think you’re any better? Flirting with another man while you were engaged to my cousin. What, Mr. Hollister is your new lover now? Gotta admit, you’ve got skills. Even he fell for you.”
I scoffed in disgust. “You think I’m like you? Henrik and I are clean. Now get the hell away from me before I make sure you lose everything.”
Wendolene hesitated, knowing the kind of power I had backing me now. She let out a cold snort.
“Don’t worry, dear,” she taunted. “I’ll make sure to send you a wedding invitation. You have to come.“?
Then, with a smug smile, she strutted away in her heels.”
