Grandma was thrilled to see me. “Jenna, honey! It’s been too long!”
I spent a few peaceful days in the countryside, visiting my parents‘ graves. They’d died in a car accident when I was in college. Their ashes were buried on a hill overlooking our old house.
<
As I placed flowers on their grave, I noticed the
soil around the headstone was disturbed. I
patted it down, a flicker of unease in my chest.
Back at Grandma’s, I found two unwelcome
guests.
“Jenna! What the hell? You dump me and run
straight into his arms? You two were probably hooking up behind my back!” Ethan stood at
the front door with Olivia, his face contorted
with rage.
“I don’t owe you an explanation. Get off my
grandma’s property,” I said coldly, then turned
to Olivia. She gave me a weak, watery smile.
Olivia should have been busy capitalizing on her
viral fame. Why was she here, with Ethan? And
how did they know I was at Michael’s?
I looked at Michael, puzzled. He shrugged. He
<
had no idea.
Olivia stepped forward, grabbing my hand.
“Jenna, I’m so sorry. I never meant for you to
quit Instagram. Please come back. Ethan and I
will help you start over. We’ll even make a video
together. Just promise you won’t copy me
again, and I’m sure everyone will forgive you.”
I yanked my hand back, disgusted.
“Jenna, don’t be a bitch. Olivia’s apologizing.
Take the high road,” Ethan snarled.
I slapped him. Hard. “That’s for cheating on
me, you asshole.”
Ethan lunged at me, but Michael stepped in,
shoving him away. Grandma emerged with a
broom, yelling at them to leave.
After they were gone, a question gnawed at me.
I was out of the picture, giving Olivia less
く
competition and more attention. Why was she
so desperate for me to come back?
A crazy idea began to form. But I needed help.
That night, I told Grandma and Michael
everything. They listened patiently, their
expressions shifting from disbelief to concern.
Grandma hugged me tight. “Oh, honey, you’ve
been through so much.”
