Chapter 279 His Ex–fiancée’s Belongings
Jennifer looked at Timothy, unsure of how to articulate her feelings.
But when she saw him hesitate, she instinctively said, “It’s okay if you don’t want to talk about it. I was just curious.”
After all, they were in a contractual marriage.
They had both agreed to stay out of each other’s personal lives.
Timothy didn’t respond. He turned his wheelchair to face her and rolled into the
closet, taking in everything inside.

His gaze landed on the pocket watch resting on the table.

Timothy picked it up, and after a moment of reflection, he tossed it into the trash
can.
Jennifer raised an eyebrow, surprised by his actions.
“You’re just going to throw that away? It looks like it means something to you.”
Timothy’s expression was unreadable. “I haven’t been here in years. I didn’t expect the staff to leave all this behind.
“I’ll have them come clean up later.”
She quickly replied, waving her hands, “Oh, you don’t have to do that because of

- me.

“I don’t mind at all. I’m just here for a short stay.”
As soon as Jennifer finished speaking, she noticed Timothy’s demeanor grow colder. Without a word, he turned his wheelchair and left the bedroom.
Standing at the closet door, Jennifer couldn’t help but feel a twinge of self–mockery.
“Is he upset because I found out about this?”
Jennifer glanced back at the closet and then closed the door behind her as she left the bedroom.

When Jennifer made her way downstairs, she didn’t see Timothy.
Instead, Eric approached her. “Mrs. Clark, breakfast is ready. Would you like to join?” he asked.
Jennifer nodded. “Has Timothy already eaten?”
“Yes, Mr. Clark has already had his breakfast.”
After a moment’s hesitation, she decided to ask, “Can I ask you something? If it’s not convenient, just say so.”
“Mrs. Clark, feel free to ask. There’s really nothing I can’t share with you,” Eric
replied.

Looking around to make sure no one was listening, she lowered her voice. “Who did Timothy used to bring here?”
Eric answered, confirming her suspicions, “That would be Mr. Clark’s fiancée.
“After the accident, she broke up with him and ended up with Mr. Clark’s best friend.”
Jennifer nearly choked on her juice. “Seriously? That’s so cliché!”
“Absolutely. Mr. Clark treated them well, and then they turned their backs on him when he needed them the most,” Eric said, his voice laced with indignation.
Jennifer hadn’t expected such a dramatic backstory.
Chapter 279 His Ex–fiancée’s Belongings She mused, “No wonder Timothy has been alone. It seems he doesn’t have many friends or brothers around.
He’s been betrayed.”

Eric continued, “Since the accident, Mr. Clark has changed a lot. He rarely comes here anymore, and I guess the staff didn’t feel comfortable cleaning out the closet, so they just left everything as it was.”
Jennifer sighed, “I understand now.”
It made sense why Timothy’s expression had darkened when he saw the pocket watch. And he had even thrown it away.
Timothy clearly hadn’t visited this bedroom in a long time. Otherwise, he

wouldn’t have left his ex–fiancée’s belongings behind.
After finishing her breakfast, Jennifer stepped outside to the lawn and spotted the cage.
The Hargreaves family seemed to have aged overnight, their faces etched with
exhaustion.

When Daniel spotted her, he immediately stood up from the lawn. “Jennifer, can you bring us some food and drinks?”
Jennifer noticed his lips looked dry and
cracked.
She nodded and glanced at the servant. “Please bring them something.”

expression serious, “Jennifer, Sarah is sick. You need to take her to the hospital.”
Sarah leaned weakly against Dylan, deliberately coughing a couple of times as if to prove her point about her poor health.
Jennifer walked over, her tone icy. “Get the family doctor. She’s just hungry after a night without food; she’s not dying.”
“How can you say something so heartless?” Dylan exclaimed, his eyes wide with shock.
“Well, I learned it from you guys,” Jennifer retorted, her gaze flicking to Asher.
She added, “Isn’t that right, Asher? You
should know better than
anyone.”
After all, when Jennifer had been locked in the basement, feeling ill and weak, Asher had said something very similar.
