“She resilly said that?”
Asher’s voice was filled with disbelief as he turned to Sarah. “You better repeat that, right here, right now.”
Sarah’s face crumpled, and she burst into tears.
“I want to speak to them alone.” she begged, desperate to avoid stying anything more with Asher listening.
Asher’s jaw tightened. “No. You’ll say it in front of me.”
But Sarah shook her head, terror flashing across her face. She refused to speak.
Within moments, the officers took Sarah away for a private questioning session.
Asher shot a frustrated glance at his lawyer. “Go in there and make sure we know everything she’s saying.”

The lawyer returned shortly, looking even more exasperated. “Mr. Hargreaves, Ms. Campbell doesn’t want me as her attorney. She insists on handling this on her own.”
Asher was fuming. “Where does she get the nerve to do this?”
Jennifer raised an eyebrow. “Have you been abusing her? She actually called the police, trying to ruin you guys. That’s… wow!”
Where did Sarah suddenly get the courage from?
Asher’s gaze darkened. It was probably that injury on her neck.
Jennifer gave him a knowing smirk. “Well, I think the
Hargreaves family might have a serious problem on their hands
now.”
“Do you think you’re in the clear?”
“At least I’m acting in self–defense. If I’m in trouble, trust me, your issues will be a hundred times worse.”
Jennifer wasn’t worried.
Asher and Dylan, on the other hand, were.
Asher hesitated, then turned, and pulled Sarah aside. “Jennifer, we need to talk…”
“I don’t think so,” Jennifer snapped, stepping back and putting some space between them.

Asher sighed, frustration in his voice, “I owe you an aprdowy for everything that’s happened.”
Jennifer’s eyes narrowed, her tone ley, “An apology don’t fix anything. You can’t just take back the damage you’ve done. tell me… what do you want now?”
“I’m going to have a word with Surah.”
“You know exactly what she wants, don’t you?”
Asher nodded, “I have a pretty good idea. But I’ll make sure you’re not in any danger. I know the situation with the Clark family has been… complicated for you.”
Jennifer’s eyes narrowed, “Cut the act. I can handle my own problems. You should focus on yours.”
“You think this is just about the Hargreaves family? The Clark family is tangled up in this, too,”
Asher’s gaze shifted to the sidewalk, where Millie was getting out of a car, flanked by a team of lawyers.
When Jennifer saw Millie, she immediately knew things had just escalated.
She turned back to Asher. “Sarah called the cops, not me. The mess you’re in is your own doing.”
After all, Asher was the one who ran the Hargreaves family now.

Millie, wearing her signature dark sunglasses, smirked. “Maybe I should’ve never gotten involved with your family. Honestly, I regret it more every day.”
Asher’s expression darkened, his patience running thin.” Mrs. Millie Clark, our families are bound by a marriage alliance. You can’t just act like that doesn’t matter.”
“Oh, I know,” Millie replied, her tone dripping with contempt.
“But
you know what? I’d rather not be tied to you anymore. I’ve already decided to call off the engagement.”
Asher’s face shifted from disbelief to shock. “You’re willing to ruin your son’s chances of recovery for that?”
Millie removed her sunglasses, her gaze sharp. “My son will secure Dylan’s pharmaceutical company, and the patents will be his.”
Millie took off her sunglasses and looked at Asher with a look of disdain. “Who needs an alliance with you? You’re nothing but nouveau riche. And from today on, the Hargreaves family will be
in ruins.”

Asher clenched his fists, his voice strained. “Can we at least discuss this? I had no idea Sarah was going to call the cops.”
But Millie ignored him completely, turning toward Jennifer. Without warning, she raised her hand to slap Jennifer across the face.
Jennifer was quick to catch Millie’s wrist, halting her.
She glanced over her shoulder with an icy smile. “In a police station? You really want to leave that kind of evidence, especially right now?”
Millie yanked her hand away in fury. “Jennifer, you’re nothing but a trashy little…”
Jennifer cut her off with a cold laugh.
“You can insult me all you want. But Sarah has told them everything. You’re in just as much trouble as anyone else now.”
For the first time, Millie’s arrogance faltered, and her face betrayed the crack in her confidence.
