- 18.
Following the beam of his flashlight, I saw a
derelict vehicle sunken on the seabed.
Its body was entangled with seaweed; the
immense pressure had shattered the
windows, turning the interior into a fish
haven.
And there, in that moment, I saw myself—
nothing but a skeleton.
Shane quickly swam over, stunned, as if in
disbelief..
He quickly unbuckled the skeleton’s seatbelt,
then carefully removed the clinging seaweed.
When he saw the diamond ring on the
skeleton’s finger, Shane choked out, “Holly…”
How ironic, that ring, the one he’d given me
when he proposed, was now our final reunion.
The low oxygen warning beeped.
I started to panic, frantically urging him to
leave, but clearly, Shane, running low on
oxygen, couldn’t manage it.
He gently scooped the skeleton into his arms,
continuing to murmur, “Holly, I’m sorry, I kept
you waiting.”
Li Hao pulled Shane out of the water.
Even unconscious when he was brought
ashore, he still held my remains tightly.
Shane was unconscious for two days and two
nights.
The first thing he did when he opened his
eyes was look for my skeleton.
Luckily, Li Hao told him, “Mr. Shen, I’ve taken
care of Ms. Su’s remains. Don’t worry, without.
your instructions, no one can touch them.”
Shane nodded, his face ashen, “Continue with
what I asked you to do.”
Li Hao left. I propped my chin in my hands,
floating before him, muttering.
“Shane, Shane, Xu Mei’s the murderer; how
could you not suspect her?”
Shane, who had been lying down, seemed to
think of something. He slowly got up from the
bed and walked to the door of the ward.
There weren’t many people on this floor of
the VIP ward. As soon as he went out, he
heard Xu Mei on the phone.
“If he finds out, we’re both done!”
“Everyone involved with that woman back
then, get rid of them.”
I knew Xu Mei’s good days were over.
The next second, Shane approached Xu Mei
with bloodshot eyes, looking like he wanted to
eat her alive.
Seeing Shane like this, and remembering the
phone call, Xu Mei seemed scared too.
She timidly called out, “Ahui?
