- 23.
When Shane woke up again, I was still by his
side.
The moment he opened his eyes, his eyes
were red.
Unfortunately, with the oxygen tube still in his
mouth, he couldn’t speak; he could only roll
his eyes towards Li Hao.
Li Hao understood, leaned closer, took out his
phone, and lifted Shane’s hand.
Shane typed two words on the phone:
‘Grandma‘.
He still remembered to take care of Grandma
for me.
Li Hao glanced at the two words, immediately
understanding.
Then he closed his eyes, tears of regret
welling up.
What’s the use of regretting; I’m already
dead.
I squatted on his chest, looking at his pained
and laughable face.
I should laugh, laugh at him choosing that
woman, laugh at his pain, laugh at his
deserved suffering.
But I couldn’t help but sniffle, feeling awful.
I was with Grandma again.
Shane kept his word, hiring the best caregiver
for Grandma; even Li Hao would chat with
Grandma.
Grandma was happy every day; I happily
floated in the air.
One day, Li Hao was telling Grandma a story,
and Shane came.
Seeing Shane, Grandma suddenly asked,
“Young man, are you Holly’s friend? You’re so
handsome, a perfect match for my Holly.”
Shane smiled, his eyes red again. He hugged
Grandma, then softly said, “Yes, Grandma,
Holly went on a long business trip, she asked
me to keep you company.”
Grandma’s illness was getting worse.
Li Hao stayed with Grandma; Shane went
back to my room.
Seeing the photos he had ripped to shreds,
he started to tremble uncontrollably.

“Mr. Shen?”
Shane waved his hand, “I’m fine.”
Then he pushed Li Hao’s hand away, walking
into my room, seeing the photos he’d ripped,
trying to piece them together.
