I didn’t dare imagine the consequences.
Grandma, a bit slow, slowly turned her head
at the doorbell and Shane’s call.
She seemed to be thinking.
Shane’s voice came again:
“Grandma, let me in.”
“Holly, I thought it over, how could you be
dead? You’re just trying to trick me.”
“I’m here now, stop pretending! Open the
door!”
He roared, then angrily rang the doorbell
again.
I was furious; his yelling would scare
Grandma.
He wasn’t like this before. He always spoke
softly to me and Grandma, afraid of raising
his voice.
Now, besides ringing the doorbell, he started
く
banging on the door.
I felt a surge of anger, rushing to the door to
beat him up.
As a spirit, I went straight through the door.
Even angrily waving my fists, I could only float
through him.
Unable to teach Shane a lesson, I got angry,
and even cried out of anger.
But I was just a spirit; even my tears didn’t
feel as cathartic as before.
I angrily shouted at him, “Yeah, I was tricking
you, go away! Don’t ever come back!”
Just as I was losing it, there was a ‘clatter‘
inside the house.
Fearing something happened to Grandma, I
quickly went back inside.
Luckily, Grandma was still safely sitting on
the chair, only the picture frame in her hand
had fallen to the floor.
Grandma looked like she’d just woken up. She
く
looked at the picture frame on the floor, bent
down to pick it up.
Then she held it in her hands, wiping my
picture over and over.
“It’s dirty. Holly loved this picture most,
thankfully it’s not broken.”
Yes, this was my favorite picture.
Shane took it for me.
Actually, I wanted to tell Grandma that this
wasn’t my favorite anymore.
My favorite was the one on her table, a
picture of her and me.
