Honestly, I didn’t hate Brittany.
She was Mom and Dad’s real daughter, my
cousin.
I may have been a little spoiled, but I was
always fiercely loyal to the people I cared
about.
So, when I first met her, I felt bad for her.
But the second she tried to kick me out, she
lost me.
If she didn’t want me as a sister, I wasn’t
going to force it.
After going home, Brittany didn’t bother me
to my face, but she was always up to
something behind the scenes.
She was always trying to show off how close
she was to Mom, and she was all sweet to
the housekeeper.
She was trying to seem innocent and sweet in
every way, just to show how different she was
from me.
But I just watched, without doing anything.
Only people who grew up without love would
make it such a big deal.
Someone like me, who’d always had plenty of
love, didn’t think that love was a big deal. I
never had to beg for it.
I knew I was loved, even if I didn’t try so hard.
So, I didn’t bother worrying about any of the
く
little things she did.
She was just so obvious.
But it was still annoying to have her hanging
around all the time.
I called my oldest brother, just to say:
Gimme money to spend on myself.
My brother called me back right away. I could
hear him in a meeting. “Kayla, are you okay?”
I put on my baby voice. “Yeah, but Brittany is
being annoying. She’s always picking on me.”
My brother told me, “Don’t worry, I’ve got
your back. When I get back from this
business trip, we’ll move you home.”
I reassured him, “It’s okay, I’m not going to
lose this.”
I hung up, and three million dollars popped
into my account, with a note: Spending
Money.
I smiled. I got dressed and went to the mall.
