Chapter 98
“Give you another chance so you can livestream again and humiliate me in front of everyone, is that it?” I challenged him.
“No, it’s not like that, Celine. That day was just a misunderstanding. I only wanted to scare you for the livestream effect. I never really planned to let them touch you and I warned them not to. See? In the end, nothing actually happened to you.“}
He made it sound so righteous, but I was trembling with rage. The only reason nothing happened that day was because I jumped out the window.”
I couldn’t even imagine what would’ve happened if I hadn’t found the courage to leap off that balcony.
“Arsen, you seriously disgust me.” I said coldly.”
The disgust in my eyes was plain to see and it clearly stung him.”
His eyes reddened instantly, full of helpless pleading, “Celine, I really know I was wrong. I’ve thought about it from your perspective these past months. I was truly a terrible person. Please just give me one more chance to make it up to you, okay?“}
I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could say anything, Charles’s voice came from behind me.}
His face was stern, with a faint, mocking smile at the corner of his lips. He said calmly, “True empathy only comes from experiencing the other person’s pain. Don’t you agree, Celine?“}
“Mm, I agree.” I looked at Arsen like he was something filthy and sneered, “Someone as fake and disgusting as you doesn’t deserve anyone’s forgiveness. You’re nothing but a rat in the gutter, forever unworthy of the light.“}
Arsen, if I had the chance to choose again, I wouldn’t have helped you. You never deserved it!” After saying that, I didn’t want to waste another word. I signaled Charles that we should leave.
Arsen still tried to speak, but Charles’s bodyguards blocked him.
As time passed, my heart slowly calmed down. I let go of the past and started over.”
But I didn’t expect to hear more about Arsen three months later. Charles had someone investigate Arsen’s background.”
It turned out that his real name wasn’t even Arsen Becker, it was Elliot Becker. He had run away from a remote village, taking the villagers‘ money with him.
Charles had someone politely tell the villagers all about Arsen’s so–called success. When they heard, they rushed to the city to find him.” But Arsen was broke, his company had gone bankrupt and even his house had been seized by the bank. He couldn’t give them a single cent and they were furious.
Just then, someone said, “I heard livestreaming makes a lot of money. He used to make millions a month from it. Why don’t we try that too?”
Hearing that, Arsen panicked, backing away in fear, trying to calm them down. But they had lost all reason.
To get their money back, they tied him up and threw him in an abandoned warehouse. When I saw the videos that surfaced online, I couldn’t hold back and threw up.
Clara, however, was laughing her head off. “Hahaha! Now that’s what I call karma! He should’ve known this day would come after all the horrible things he did.”
“Celine, see that? Bad people always get what they deserve. You’re such a good person, you can’t keep living in the past. Look forward and maybe you’ll find someone even better,” she said.”
Seeing her so serious for once, I turned my gaze toward Charles, who was on the phone in the garden. He seemed to notice I was watching and turned slightly to smile at me.!!
Under the brilliant, golden sunlight, it looked as though he was wrapped in a warm, golden glow.
