The staff was clearly shocked. Madeline’s eyes widened as she kept blinking rapidly. I had never seen someone blink their eyes so fast. And Rose? She just opened her mouth, with no words coming out. Tom was the only one who looked normal, although I couldn’t read his facial expression. It was clear, though, that we had managed to shock the living hell out of them.
I mean, I would have laughed if this wasn’t serious, given the way they were acting right now. But since this was serious and true, and not something to laugh at, I had to maintain my composure.
“You two… you’re getting married?” Madeline was the first one to regain her voice.
“Yes, she’s going to be Mrs. Blackwind,” Emerson said, affirming our union and holding me tighter.
“Again?” Rose chimed in.
I guess she finally found something worth saying. I stared at her, not saying a word.
“Yes.” Emerson answered, I could tell he didn’t like where the conversation was going.
“…but she was married to Eric.” Rose continued
“Yes, I was, but then we got divorced a few weeks ago. Didn’t anyone tell you?” I told her, with a little sarcasm at the end.
“No,” she said, shaking her head. “I didn’t know that.”
“Well, did you know that Eric got married last night?” I asked her again. I was trying to make a point and she was daft for not catching my meaning. She narrowed her eyes at me and I maintained a smile.
Madeline straightened and responded. “Yes, I know. I was there.”
“Yes, you were, so you must have seen Emerson’s proposal to me.”
“No, actually, my son called me, and I couldn’t come to the reception. I was just there for the wedding.” She explained.
“Well, I guess you missed out then. Emerson proposed, and I said yes.”
“I told her
cheerfully..
“We’re getting married next month,” Emerson said again with finality. His voice

didn’t entertain any more questions.
“Congratulations, sir,” Tom said, clearly noticing the tension in the room and eager to ease it and please his boss.
Now looking at Emerson, he seemed tense, displeased. Not really angry, but he seemed to be holding back.
“Thank you, Tom,” I said to Tom. “That means a lot to us.
“I hope the two of you have a long, everlasting marriage,” he said with a nod.
“Thank you,” I replied,
“I hope this one lasts,” Rose said under her breath but I heard her. Very clearly.
“What did you say?” I asked, turning towards her.
“Congratulations,” she said, forcing a tight smile on her face that was faker than her makeup.
“Thank you, Rose,” I answered dismissively. I decided she wasn’t worth it anyway.
“Congratulations, Mina. I’m sorry about how I acted on the news. It’s just that I still have a picture of you in my brain when you were still young, coming to the house, asking for cookies in the kitchen, and now you’re this young woman, and you’re getting married to…” She couldn’t finish the sentence as she touched her chest. shakily, seeming to compose herself before she said,
“I’m sorry….” and then turned and left.
I was shocked, my eyes widening as I watched her retreat from the living room. toward the kitchen. What is she so worked up about, I wondered. Then I looked up at Emerson, hoping for some kind of reaction or explanation, but he
avoided eye contact with me as he addressed the staff, Tom and Rose.
“Okay then, that’s what I wanted you guys to know. You can go on with your activities.”
“Thank you, sir,” Tom said as he nodded and left, but Rose took her sweet time looking at us again before finally walking out.
“Well, looks like that one is going to be a mouthful “I muttered, turning back to Emerson.
“Are you okay?” I asked him. He seemed to be different to the man that I came here

with.
“Yeah, I’m okay. Why?”
“I don’t know; you seem a bit tense. Is this alright? Should we have moved in so fast? Is this too fast? Are we making a mistake?”
“No, no, no, no, We’re not making a mistake. Stop worrying. Everything is perfect.”
“If you say so, but then…, well, your staff was really surprised. If this was a comedy movie, I would have laughed so hard.”
“Yeah, they have been here for a long time. It’s going to be an adjustment, I guess.”
“They’re going to be fine,” I told him even though I didn’t think that way. I knew they would be surprised but not that……surprised I guess.
“Yeah, they are. So, want to kill the time by giving me a tour?” He said too cheerfully and I knew he just wanted to change the subject.
“Fine.” I finally agreed as he took my hand, and we started walking around the house. He cares what his staff thinks about our union, right?
As we explored, Emerson eventually took me to the second floor, where his bedroom was located. I kept moving forward, expecting him to take me up to the last door of the hall with golden double doors, the master’s bedroom.
But before we reached it, he suddenly opened the door next to his on the left and pulled me inside.
I looked at him, shocked by this sudden move, widening my eyes at me with unanswered questions.
“Okay, I already know the guestrooms. Why are you taking me in here? What is it, is it a surprise?”
He looked toward me sheepishly before he said,
“This is your new bedroom.”
“My bedroom?” I asked surprised.
“I know it doesn’t have a personality yet,” he said as he walked inside, looking the place over.
The room was big and nice, with a balcony outside, its own wardrobe, its own bathroom, and a little mini sitting room. It was very comfortable and luxurious. Very

fitting. But, This was not what I was expecting when I came here.
I guess he didn’t know that as he continued speaking.
“You’re free to do with the room as you please,” Emerson said, “You can get a designer, you can design it for yourself, you can remodel it….just change anything and everything. I want you to feel comfortable, and I want you to feel at home because you still remember that you’re the woman of the house and you own this place.”
I blinked at him, still processing everything
“So, I haven’t yet gotten my financials in place because we are not married yet, but I’m going to get you a black card to do with whatever you choose.”
“Oh no, no, Emerson, please don’t.”
“No, you are going to be Mrs. Blackwind and not just the son of the billionaire. You’re going to be the wife. You deserve everything, Mina, and I mean everything your heart desires. You will never go without what you want. You’re going to go anywhere and do anything and everything your heart pleases. I know you work hard. I see you work at the company and I know you’re an independent woman. I want to. It want to spoil you, take care of you. Let me, please.”
I looked at him before I nodded.
“Okay,”
“Thank you for agreeing to that,” he said, but then I stopped him in his tracks.
“I do have a condition.”
“Whatever it is, it’s yours,” he replied.
“You haven’t even heard it yet.”
“Okay, tell me. What condition?”
“Until we get married, I will only agree to it after…”
“So, I’m only allowed to pamper my wife and not allowed to pamper and take care of my fiancée.”
“Yeah, I guess so,” I said with a shrug.
“Okay, whatever you say goes. Happy wife, happy life.” He said with a wink. Emmerson was such a flirt, how was he still single all this time??

“Okay, but I still have a question.”
“Whatever you want to ask, just do it. It has to do with your bedroom isn’t it?
“Yes, it has to do with the room and nothing to do with the room.
“What is it? Tell me.”
“Why am I here? I have to admit I am so confused right now.” I admitted.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, why am I in a guest bedroom?”
“It’s going to be your bedroom, This is your bedroom. If you don’t like it you can choose any of the other…” he answered nonchalantly, as if he wasn’t clearly grasping the issue here.
“Okay, I need to know is this like a temporary thing? Like you just want me to stay. here until we’re married, or is this like my room, room? I don’t understand what this room is supposed to symbolize. I guess that’s what I’m asking.”
“Oh, you thought we were going to share a bedroom?” He asked as if this was at surprise and I caught him off guard.
“Yeah, because we’re engaged. We’re going to get married. I thought that’s what married couples do. Share a bedroom….?”
“Yeah, but we are not ‘that‘ married couple, now are we?”
“What do you mean?” I asked with a frown.
