“Rita, sweetie.”
I turned as Rita walked in, wearing a sleek white dress with a grey suit jacket, her hair perfectly pulled back into a bun. She looked radiant, glowing in that way only pregnancy could make someone glow. I swallowed and composed myself not to show any weakness.
“Rita’s taking your position, effective immediately,” Eric said, grinning as he walked over to her, placing a kiss on her cheek before taking her hand. “Please hurry up and clear your things out of the office.”
I stared at them, my heart pounding. “You really think you can do this, Eric? You really want to bring our marital, and personal problems into the office?” I asked, my voice calm.
“This isn’t personal,” Eric said coldly, shrugging like it was nothing. “This is business. And you, Mina, are no longer a benefit to this company. Thank you for wasting enough of our time this morning.”
His dismissal hit me like a punch, the finality in his words leaving no room for argument. I felt the weight of his words over me as I stood there, trying to figure out what to do next.
Just then, my secretary, Rachel, walked in and handed me an envelope. I tore it open and scanned the contents, my eyes widening with emotion, second by second. Before I could process it fully, Eric turned his attention to my secretary.
“What’s your name again?” he asked, snapping his fingers dismissively.
“It’s Rachel,” she replied, her tone low.
“Yes, Rachel. Mina is no longer your boss. I would advise you not to see her as such… she no longer works for the company.”
Rachel hesitated, her eyes shifting to me. “I’m sorry, Mr. Blackwind, but this came from the senior Blackwind. He asked me to bring this to her.”
Eric paused for a second, thrown off, but quickly waved her away.
“Okay, fine, whatever,” he said dismissively, brushing it off.
Rachel nodded and quietly left the room. Eric’s smugness returned instantly as he snapped at me. “Hurry up. I’ve got work to do.”
I sat down slowly, making myself comfortable in the chair as I took in the scene before me, Eric and Rita standing together, victory in their eyes.

I took my time, crossing my legs and inhaling deeply.
“You can go now,” I said, glancing at the two of them calmly.
Then, turning to the curious faces peeking through the door, I raised my voice.
“The show’s over, Everybody back to work.”
Rita, clearly irritated by my calm, marched up to me, leaning across the table.
“Who are you? Who the hell do you think you are?” she hissed. “This is my office. Please vacate it.”
I smiled at her, standing up with deliberate grace. But instead of addressing her, I turned towards Eric.
“I think you might want to read this,” I said, holding the letter to him.
“You don’t work for this company, Rita. You never will, I assure you.” I said, my voice cold and sharp.
Her mouth opened slightly, but I wasn’t finished. I turned toward Efic, who had been standing there, smug as ever.
“Eric…” I paused for effect, watching his expression shift as he tried to predict my next words, “I don’t just work for this company anymore. I’ve just become your boss.
