The smugness on Eric’s face faltered, and before he could find or gather something to say, I continued,
“If you want to keep your job, I suggest you get out of my office and start working on the project I placed on your desk……the one I’m sure you haven’t even touched yet. It am not doing your work for you anymore.”
I gave him a mocking smile, my voice filled with fake happiness and pleasantries.

way.
I snapped my fingers twice.
“Cha–cha, Eric. Please. Go. To. Work.”
His eyes widened in fury, his voice dripping with contempt as he spat,
“Are you crazy or just stupid?”
Unbothered, I calmly reached for the letter, handing it to him.
“You might want to read this,” I said, my tone as casual, calm and collected as ever.
As Eric scanned the document, I could see the colour drain from his face. Whatever confidence he had walked in with was now evaporating, leaving him shocked, angry and panicked.
The whispers from outside the office grew louder, the onlookers clearly eager for more drama. I decided to ignore them entirely not wasting time on them. Eric was the one who wanted an audience anyway. I turned my attention, focusing entirely on Eric and the reality that was crashing down on him.
“As you can see,” I began, “the Mr Blackwind has made things very clear. You like to talk, Eric, but the truth is, I’ve been the one doing the actual work around here. I’ve been here for three years, putting in the effort, while you’ve… done nothing.”
Eric’s face screwed up, but I wasn’t about to let him off the hook.
“The board met this morning and decided you weren’t doing your job, I did most of your work for you while you spent your time doing……what exactly? Your position has been given to the person who’s been handling the responsibilities all along….me.

I could see the shock setting in, his disbelief at how easily the rug had been pulled
out from under him.
“You now work under me, Eric, I am your boss,” I said, with a pointed look. “And I would advise you to start acting accordingly”
I let my words hang in the air for a moment, letting him digest what I just served before I went on.
“You know that corner office of yours? It’s beautiful, isn’t it? The tall windows, the amazing chair you used to sit in, relaxing like you owned the place.” I took a breath, savouring the moment. “That is.not your office anymore.”
“What are you talking about?” Eric asked, his voice shaking.
They stood there, he and Rita speechless. I could see the shock, the disbelief, the determination not to let me have the last word, but we could all feel the game had changed and someone didn’t get a memo.
Rita stood beside Eric, her eyes wide, not believing for a second what she was hearing. She glanced between me and Eric, her head snapping back and forth so quickly that it seemed like she’d have an aching neck by the end of the day.
“This can’t be happening. My father can’t do this to me,” Eric muttered, his voice growing desperate.
“This has nothing to do with my relationship with you. It’s just because you’re… messing with him, you think you can take my company from me? You can take away my company, my birthright, my inheritance?”
Come on, Eric. Think,” he said, trying to reason with himself more than with me.
“A sore loser doesn’t look good on you,” I said dryly, watching the panic spread across his face.
“It doesn’t look good?” He shot back, eyes blazing. “He is my father. You’re using my father to fight against me. You’re using him to punish me, aren’t you? To try and hurt me, it won’t work.”
“Oh no, son….
“Don’t call me ‘son,‘ Ever!” He shouted, nearly about to explode.
“But I am going to be your mother–in–law, and you’re going to be my son–in–law,
aren’t you?” I smiled, letting the words hit their mark.

“That will never happen!” he spat, his voice sharp with hatred. “You’re using my father to take my birthright. Do you think you’re going to take this company? You think you’re going to get everything, don’t you? But you’re nothing but an employee here. I have shares in this company. You don’t have anything!”
He stood there, seething, unable to control his fury. “Don’t think for a second my father will marry you without an airtight prenup. Don’t lie to yourself just because

have his attention for two minutes. I assure you, Mina, it is not going to work, and it will not last. I know my father better than anyone.”
“It’s not working?” I asked, my voice calm as if his rage didn’t affect me at all.” Well, it’s already working, isn’t it?” I asked gesturing towards the letter.
Rita gasped, clutching her chest like she’d just been stabbed. Her eyes were wide, her hand trembling as if she was so scandalized and I had just said something vile.
“Oh, please, Rita. Stop with the theatrics,” I said with a wave of my hand. “Just leave with your husband. The only reason he married you is because you’re pregnant. He’s been obsessed with having a baby, isn’t that right?” I finished off winking at Eric like the two of us shared secrets that Nina knew nothing about.
And maybe we did.
“Don’t you dare…” Rita started, but I cut her off, turning to Eric.
“Isn’t it? Didn’t you tell her?” I asked, my eyes locked on his. Waiting for him to object.
“Don’t.” Eric’s voice was low, and dangerous, as he raised a finger in warning.
“I’m not afraid of you, Eric,” I said calmly. “The only reason I won’t tell her why you’re so obsessed with her pregnancy is because you confided in me when we were still together. I haven’t said anything out of respect, but don’t you ever come at me with disrespect again.”
Eric’s face turned red, his rage hanging by a thread. “You are not going to be my boss. You are not going to win this. I’m going upstairs to see my father right now and get
this sorted out. By the time I get back, I want you gone.
“Don’t worry, Eric. I’ll wait.” I said, stopping him in his tracks as he stormed towards the door.
“Good,” he snapped.
“Because by then, I’ll be at the corner office enjoying my coffee.” I finished off with
