Back at the house, Jake tossed me a tube of
ointment.
I was shocked.
He was actually showing concern.
Maybe the soup was working.
I grabbed the ointment, grinning, and started
rubbing it on my wounds.
He scowled.
“It’s just a freakin‘ ointment, don’t get all
excited.”
I couldn’t stop smiling.

you’ve ever been nice to me.”
“Jake, the best thing for a woman is a good

“You women are so dramatic. Can’t live
without a guy?”
He stormed off, pulled the covers over his
head, and went to sleep.
I was still stuck on the couch.
“Oh, I’m hurt and still on the couch.”
“It’s fine, just my body is hurting…”
