ه
The wedding was rushed.
Ethan was all over Bethany, fixing her dress,
smoothing her hair.
Jake was a total Ice King, glowering at
everyone.
He wouldn’t even look at me.
Bethany had to rub it in.
“Honey,” she cooed, grabbing Ethan’s hand.
“In this pack, if you can’t keep your man
happy, you’re in for a rough ride.”
<
I glanced at Ethan.
He looked love–struck, but I saw the silver
ring on his thumb.
Chills shot down my spine.
I forced a smile.
“I’ll manage, thanks.”
I turned and practically ran.
Even though it already happened, my body
remembered the trauma.
Bethany thought she’d won.
She had no idea what she was in for.
I’d rather be stuck with grumpy Jake.
And this time, she made it possible.
That night, I changed into a slinky red
nightgown.
Jake was passed out on the bed, his black
wolf tail twitching.
The tail.
A werewolf’s most sensitive spot.
You don’t touch it unless you really trust
someone.
I took a deep breath and went for it.
<
I barely touched his tail before he shoved me
onto the floor.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?”
He was furious.
“Jake, it’s our wedding night.”
I tried to sound innocent.
Inside, I was cursing him out.
Jerk!
“So what?”
He grabbed my throat.
<
Those amber eyes pinned me down.
“Listen, I’m not interested in any of that crap.
You want to live? Stay out of my way.”
I couldn’t breathe.
I knew about his temper.
Every dog in the pack knew he was a volatile
killer.
If Bethany hadn’t been his wife in name only,
he probably would have eaten her.
I swallowed hard.
I couldn’t give up.
く
I’d suffered enough.
“Okay, okay… I won’t bother you.”
He dropped me.
I coughed, gasping for air.
Seeing his irritation, I scrambled to the bathroom to cough it all out.
