I had no clue what was happening at the
wedding.
As soon as I landed in Ocean City, I joined my
professor’s research lab, diving headfirst into
developing a new drug.
Thanks to my memories from my previous
life, I cut the research time from three years
down to one.
The day we finally succeeded, the entire lab
was celebrating.
My colleague, handed me a coffee.
<
“Congrats, Stacy. This whole thing was your
idea. Don’t forget to write your speech for the
presentation.”
I nodded, smiling. “Don’t worry, my brain is
my speech.”
To celebrate, my colleague took everyone out
to dinner.
After a few drinks, everyone started talking
about recent gossip. My colleague mentioned
a research lab that was working on a similar
drug to ours. The effects were pretty much
the same, but they were having trouble
getting funding, so their progress was slow.
My heart skipped a beat. Instantly, Mike’s
face flashed in my mind.
<
That drug had been Mike’s claim to fame in
my past life. It was how he made a name for
himself and earned millions.
But I remembered him not discovering it until
a year later. Why was he researching it so
early now?
Did he regain his memories, like I did?
Seeing me space out, my colleague waved his
hand in front of my face. “Stacy, what’s up?”
I snapped out of it. “Oh, nothing. By the way,
is the researcher at that lab named
Harrison?”
My colleague chuckled, teasing me. “Yeah,
how’d you know? I think his name’s Mike
Harrison. People say he’s good looking and
L
successful, but he’s still single. He turns down
every girl who tries to get with him, says he’s
waiting for someone.”
“Stacy, you know him, don’t you? Do you
know who he’s waiting for?”
I paused, confused. Mike was single? Wasn’t
he married to Olivia?
I couldn’t shake the feeling that something
was off. Could it be that the person Mike was
waiting for was me?
But I shook off the thought.
No way. Based on the timeline, their kid had
to be almost a year old by now. He probably
loved Olivia and the baby, he was trying to
protect their privacy, so he was telling people
く
Sensing my colleague’s interested gaze, I
waved my hands. “I just heard of him, we’re
not close. And who knows if he’s even telling
the truth about waiting for someone? Maybe
he just can’t get it up, lol.”
Everyone at the table burst out laughing, and
my unease started to fade.
Even if he was waiting for me, so what? I,
Stacy, was never going back.
