He frowned, his tone tinged with frustration. “Back on our honeymoon,
everything was going fine until you had to cause a scene and ruin the trip for everyone.”
“After three years, I’ve forgiven your childish antics and now you want to push your luck?”
I stared at Michael, my mouth opening and closing a few times, but in the end, I couldn’t bring myself to say anything.
It was supposed to be my long–awaited honeymoon, but Patricia had to stir things up, turning it into an awkward three–way situation. After a few arguments, they simply left me behind in a foreign, chaotic country to fend for myself.

magnificent as I remembered. After getting out of the car, I followed Michael to meet Aunt Irene.
She had been waiting for me in the hall and Patricia was by her side, strutting with her usual air of superiority.
“Sherry, it’s been so long. You think you’re too good for the Lester Family now?”
The warm, loving woman I once
remembered now looked at me with pure
disdain.
“Aunt Irene, long time no see.
She didn’t even glance at me. “It’s
better we don’t see each other. My life has been much quieter without you around.”
I opened my mouth, but my throat felt dry.
Back when Grandpa Melvin was still alive, they used to tease me, calling me the little mistress of the Lester family.
I had always believed that one day, I would

be Michael’s wife. That’s why I tolerated his cold looks, his disdain and still
continued to treat him with kindness for
ten long years.
In that moment, I realized that I was nothing more than an expendable outsider.
If Michael didn’t want to deal with me, he could easily leave me stranded in a foreign country. My life, my dignity, meant nothing to him–just a matter of his mood.
If he was in a good mood, he would fulfill the engagement and marry me, making me the young mistress of the Lester Family.
If he was upset, he’d throw me into danger and my life wouldn’t be worth a second thought.
Irene, Michael’s mother, paused for a moment before feigning kindness, taking my hand.
“Sherry, listen to me and let Patty have the engagement, alright?”

was trembling as I reached out to take the box.
Bam!
Patricia pretended to lose her grip, sending the box of ashes crashing to the ground. My late mother’s belongings scattered everywhere.
I grabbed Patricia, my eyes burning with rage as I shouted, “Patricia, why would you do this?!”
There was no need to think twice–I knew it was intentional. Patricia had always been the troublemaker–breaking the gifts Michael gave me, deliberately ruining my assignments and spreading rumors about my flaws. I had put up with all of it.
But this? This was crossing a line. Why did she have to disrespect my mother‘ s belongings like this?
I clenched her arm tightly, my voice dark and full of warning. “Patricia, you will kneel and pick up every single piece of my

her grave. If you don’t, I swear I will never let you go.”
Patricia, struggling and crying, pushed against me, but I ignored her pleas and continued shouting, demanding she kneel and apologize.
Then, I felt a sharp sting on my face.
Michael had slapped me.
He looked at me with disappointment.
