“Alex…can it be that Elena is still angry with me? Let me dial her number, maybe she will come if I apologise for that day.”
“No! She has gone too far this time. How dare she ruin our party?!” Alex gritted hist teeth in fury.
“Alex you know how Elena is, maybe she is still working night duty at that old restaurant. What if she forgot about our get–together?”
“I have spoiled her too much! This time I will teach her a proper lesson!” Alex turned around to leave only for Jessica to
clutch his arm as tears dribbled down her
eyes.
“Alex, what if there is any
misunderstanding, let us come with you too.” Jessica wanted to bring all of Alex‘ s friends to the place where I worked to
show the difference in our status and insult

“Just do whatever damnit!”
My husband along with his friends drove to the diner where I used to work as a waitress. Storming inside the place, Alex
asked for the manager immediately.
“Where is Elena?! Call her out this
instant!”
“Elena? Why would she be here?” The receptionist asked, confused to which Jessica replied with fake tears.
“I am Elena’s sister, please call her. We will not judge her by this…” A look of disdain passed Jessica‘ s face before she continued.” We will not judge her for working as a waitress here-”
“Elena left the job yesterday, to think you look so well off when you cannot feed that child a simple meal properly.” Before Jessica could complete her sentence, my manager, Mrs John who was an old lady in her seventies arrived.

“Left? What are you talking about?”
“Just as you heard, that child studied hard so it’s not a surprise that she was offered a job abroad. Previously she rejected the proposal twice already but today she told me that she was finally ready to accept it-”
“LIES!” Alex banged his fist on the table making it crack.
“What stupid lies are you sprouting? If she was so afraid of me that she hid in a hole as soon as I arrived then she must have not angered me from the beginning!
And to even make up that she has gone abroad? A girl who cannot even do anything without my assistance will go away without informing me? Impossible!”
“Sir, the manager is telling you the truth, ” a waitress said, only to be interrupted.
“The truth huh? Haha by going abroad is she trying to sever our ties?” Alex threw his head back laughing as if it was a joke but when Mrs John did not speak a word

standing calmly Alex‘ s heart trembled in fear.
“This is the thing she sent me to give it to you if you ever came searching for her.”
Alex rolled his eyes and would have thrown away the parcel if it wasn‘ t for Jessica‘ s best friend, who laughed sarcastically.
“God, Is she still throwing a tantrum? Elena is still the same as when we were young.” Fiona, Jessica’s best friend retorted
“Yesterday she threw her wedding ring away and today this? Alex, your wife is truly troublesome-”
“Fiona!” Jessica reprimanded sharply, her eyes turning wide in panic, like Fiona said something she should have kept
hidden.
“Alex it’s nothing, Fiona had a slip of tongue just now-”
“What do you mean by Elena throwing her wedding ring away?” Alex, shocked at those words, stared at Fiona demanding an

“Well….you see, yesterday I found this diamond ring outside Jessica’s bedroom after the party ended. I asked Jess and she said that it belonged to Elena.”
Alex, who was confident till now faltered.Yesterday the way I looked at him. with broken dead eyes flashed before him. suddenly.
The possibility that I saw him cheating with Jessica made his entire body numb.
When he returned yesterday I did not ask any questions, nor did I complain that he treated me with such heartlessness to even push me down in anger. My sudden disappearance made his heart feel heavy.
“Alex, I will help you search for sister Elena, I–I am worried about her, there seems to be a misunderstanding here.” Jessica accompanied Alex as he rushed home before ripping open the parcel.

“Alex.” I addressed my husband in the
recording.
“I once thought that you loved me just as much as I did. But you need not worry anymore, now I am completely aware that I was just a plaything all along while your heart belonged to my sister.”

Alex stared at the screen without removing his eyes even for a second, his heart sinking with each passing sentence. All color drained his face when I mentioned
the satin dress.
My soon to be ex–husband slowly turned around to see Jessica standing there, watching Jessica with fearful eyes.
“What the fuck did you say to Elena?! Told her that I was sleeping with you?” Alex‘ s enraged tone made Jessica bite her lip in hesitation, before she stepped closer with tears streaming down her face pitifully.
“Alex… I can never break you two apart. It’s not me.I didn’t tell Elena a single thing!” Silence engulfed the surroundings. as Alex looked at the screen replacing the video again as if he could not believe it.

“Impossible” he muttered. “She loves me so
much, how can she even think of leaving me?..No this is all a stupid ploy by her to attract my attention.”
Despite saying this, his stomach twisted as he rummaged through the documents in the parcel in panic. There it was, the silver diamond pendant glinting in the fading light.
For a moment, all he could do was stare as the pendant slipped through his fingers. falling on the ground with a clink.
“She left this..” Alex whispered. “This was my gift to her on our wedding night…” With that he left the parcel half unopened
running upstairs like a maniac with Jessica following him like a lost puppy.
Rummaging through the wardrobe
haphazardly he took out the birthday
present he had thrown at the back without another thought and opened it.
