- 15.
My mom greeted me. “You’re back? Mark
made your favorite dish.”
“He redecorated your room!”
Mark put the food on the table. “You’re kind
to me, Auntie.”
They acted like nothing had happened.
I clenched my bag. “Mom, you weren’t going
to get involved.”
She looked away. “I think you should give him
another chance.”
The feeling of helplessness came over me
again

Everyone was telling me Mark was great.
But they never asked me what I felt.
I picked up my bag and turned to leave, but Mark stopped me.
He asked me to forgive him, his tone begging.
I shook my head.
Our relationship was like a tattered dress.
I needed respect.
He was lying, so he hadn’t learned.
“Mark.” I looked at his eyes and said “You
can do this today, but what about tomorrow?”
Г
“What if you don’t like something in the
future?”
“You still haven’t learned.”
Mark grabbed me.
But he was pulled back by some men.
Ashley walked in. “What, are you going to use
force?”
I sighed.
I had set this up. I had asked Ashley to bring
them.
If I didn’t text, she should come in.

I walked away. He yelled and told me that he
could change.
I said, “You had ten years and you did not.”
“I won’t trust you again.”
