Two The Breaking Point
Catalina’s POV
“Have you ever thought about what you’ve done?” Javier said, entering our master bedroom early in the morning. He didn’t come home last night and didn’t even message me about why he couldn’t make it.
But I didn’t care, anymore.
I thought before he was busy handling business in his territory, but I was wrong. He had been deceiving me all along.
I was drying my hands with a towel while sitting at the vanity table, watching his serious reflection in the round mirror. He
loosened his tie and threw his coat on the
edge of the bed. I had left my life in Los Angeles, my family, to follow Javier to Italy. He had promised to love only me and make me his queen, helping him rebuild his crumbling empire. I did everything to achieve our dream, even if it meant being

disowned by my parents.
But if you love someone, you don’t cheat on them or hurt them. That’s what my mother told me, and my father loved her just the same. My eyes became glassy as he stopped by my side, and my stomach recoiled at the faint smell of jasmine on him.
Sophia’s signature perfume. I gripped the towel, refusing to answer him, continuing what I was doing.
“Amore Mio, are you that resistant? What you’ve done embarrassed Sophia,” he said with tenderness in his voice when mentioning Sophia’s name, that pricked my heart. I swallowed the lump in my throat.
“She’s the daughter of the president. You better apologize to her.”
“You came here to say that? I won’t because it’s the truth, Javier,” I said coldly, seeing the shock on his handsome. face when I called him by his name, not mio marito–my husband.

He gripped my arm and pulled me up, causing me to drop the towel. “Even if it’s the truth, you should keep your mouth shut! You never say anything that could ruin anyone. What’s happening to you?”
It’s you who made me like this.
I grabbed his hand and turned away. “Don’t force me to do something I won’t, Javier. I am not a puppet or a fool. I am your wife, and I don‘ t kneel to anyone, not even you.”
“What the hell is your problem! Don’t you know that if the president learns of the accusation, it’ll be our problem? I don‘ t want to deal with the president himself. He’s a headache,” Javier snapped, gripping my arm to stop me and face him.
“Amore Mio, do what I tell you for the Alarcon Family, for the Cartel,” he demanded. “Even though you are my wife, if you disobey me, you won’t like what I can do to you,” he warned, his eyes

showing he was serious.
He was ruthless and heartless to those who disobeyed him, and I knew him well.
“Fine, I’ll do it, but you need to do something for me in return,” I said, seeing the satisfaction in his eyes.
“I’ll do it, and after you‘ re done, I need you to help with the new shipment coming in and make sure the police don’t interfere,” he said with affection in his voice, his hand rubbing my shoulders and cupping my face. “Sorry for being busy. Have you been to the doctor? Are you pregnant?”
When he said that, it felt like that was all that mattered to him–having his child, the heir to his cartel. Remembering the past seven years, I realized I had been blind. Javier didn’t truly love me. He was only pleased if I did something good, earning his affection and words. I was the one trying to make our relationship work, like I was the only one in love.

“No, I am not,” I lied, seeing the disappointment in his eyes. That disappointment made me hate myself for not having a child for six years, and it stressed me out. He used to push me to go to the doctor to see if I was pregnant. My chances of having a child were small, as the doctor said.
Yet, I wasn’t going to let my child live a life like this.
“I think it s hopeless for us to have a child,” he said with a tone of defeat, as if it was my fault. I wanted to laugh. Because you have a child with your mistress! Now, I was just nothing.
“Yes, it’s hopeless between us,” I agreed with a serious, cold expression. “I need to get dressed and apologize to Sophia, and you’ll do what you‘ ve said.”
